Chapter 379
Just as Henry was struggling to contain the fury building in his chest, the hospital room door was pushed open.
I walked in wearing a white lab coat, my usual nurse’s uniform replaced by a doctor’s coat for the day, my hair pulled up into a simple bun on top of my head.
I wore a surgical mask that covered the lower half of my face, leaving only my eyes exposed. The mask made my already small face look even tinier.
Henry clearly hadn’t expected me to return. When he saw me enter, his entire body froze.
I noticed his expression shift–the anger in his eyes momentarily softened as he looked at my face, but then quickly darkened again, as if he’d remembered something unpleasant.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice cold and flat.
Honestly, I didn’t want to face Henry, but Dr. Violet’s words kept echoing in my mind. He was just a patient now, and there was no reason to、 avoid him.
Besides, avoiding him would only make it seem like I had something to hide.
His emotionless tone actually helped ease my nervousness a bit. “I’m here to check on your condition and ask you a few questions,” I replied professionally.
I was a healthcare professional now, and I needed to treat every patient with the same level of care, regardless of who they were.
Henry’s expression changed subtly–if I hadn’t spent six years living with him day and night, I might have missed it.
For a split second, I thought I detected a flicker of pleasure in his eyes, as if he’d been happy to see me. But when he processed my words and realized I was only there as a medical professional making rounds, his mood visibly darkened.
“I don’t need it!” he snapped, his anger flaring up again.
He thought I came specifically to see him, I realized.
Now he’s angry because I’m only here as a doctor on routine business.
Typical Henry. Always expecting the world to revolve around him.
I immediately tensed up again. Six years of marriage had given me an intimate understanding of Henry’s body language. The slight arch of his eyebrow, the subtle furrow between his brows, the tension in his muscles–all signs that he was on the verge of losing his temper.
“Mr. Harding, given your current condition, it’s not advisable to get agitated,” I said politely. “You should try to maintain a calm state of mind. Since you don’t want to cooperate with my work today, I’ll come back when you’re more willing to participate.”
This bastard’s temper was too volatile, and I had no intention of standing there taking his abuse.
If he didn’t want to cooperate, I’d just leave!
I had barely turned around when I heard him roar behind me.
“Did I say you could leave?” His voice thundered through the room. “Sophia, if you dare take one step out that door, I’ll file a complaint against you for lack of patience with patients!”
“This man is unbelievable! I thought to myself.

Chapter 379
Coming and going as he pleases, and treating me like I’m at his beck and call!
I stopped in my tracks, frozen in place.
Recently, I’d been promoted too quickly, and many people at the hospital were jealous, spreading rumors behind my back. I’d kept a low profile and hadn’t bothered addressing them, which had finally resulted in some peace and quiet.
Having just been assigned to Dr. Violet’s research team, the last thing I needed was a formal complaint.
At Manhattan General, medical staff who received complaints were either demoted or had their salaries reduced. I couldn’t afford to lose this opportunity I’d only just gained.
I bit my lower lip hard, weighing my options. Finally, I turned back around with a practiced professional smile plastered on my face.
The customer is always right. Mr. Harding is our customer, and if the customer has demands, we try our best to meet them.
