Chapter 150 It Will Never Be Enough

Amelia didn’t know much about Milly’s adoptive parents, nor did she care. She raised her foot, prepared to walk away.
Just as she opened the living room door, a man’s loud, cursing voice erupted from outside. “Come on, then! I dare you! I already called the police before I got here. If you don’t want me dying on your doorstep, then stay the hell away from me!”
He held a kitchen knife to his throat, eyes wild with madness. The moment he saw Milly, a twisted smile of delight flashed across his face. “Milly, finally! I’ve been dying to see you. Please, just give me a bit more money. 6 million dollars, it’s not much.
“This is the last time I’ll ever gamble, I swear. But if you don’t give it to me, I’ll post all those photos of you getting beaten online. So what if you’re a rich young lady now? People will still see your humiliating past, they’ll still look down on you. Hahaha!”
Milly broke down on the spot, collapsing to her knees. “Please, don’t do this. You’ve taken so much money over the years. Isn’t it enough?!”
The man’s neck stiffened. Just one look at his twisted expression and you could tell he’d completely lost his mind. “Not enough. Six million dollars is nothing to you people. If the money isn’t in my account in three minutes. I’ll release the photos right away.”
Chaos broke out in the living room. Milly stayed kneeling and sobbing, looking utterly pitiful.
Finally, James suddenly shouted. “Fine! I’ll pay!”
Milly looked at him, eyes brimming with tears. “Dad, but he’ll just come back for more. Maybe we should just let him release the photos. I can leave the country tonight and never come back. The family’s been a laughingstock because of me anyway. I’m so sorry for everything.”
James’s eyes were filled with pain. Just seeing this crazed man show up at their door was enough to know what kind of life Milly had suffered with her adoptive parents. No wonder she had psychological issues.
He sighed. “It’s alright. The company still has some funds. I’m getting old anyway, I just want you all to be okay.”
Hearing he’d be getting the money, the man immediately lit up with satisfaction. A smug grin on his face. “That’s more like it. Same account as before. Milly, I gotta say, you’ve got yourself a good dad now. Unlike your old man, who only cared about your looks.”
Milly trembled all over and fainted on the spot. The Summers household descended into complete chaos.
Everyone rushed to get the man out of the house and urgently transferred the money to him. They were afraid he might say something even more upsetting to Milly.
She was carried back to the sofa, where the family doctor was already on standby, beginning emergency
treatment.
Amelia stood on the sidelines watching the flurry of panic. She’d planned to leave, but Alexander was right beside her, fists clenched in worry, eyes red. It seemed like he, too, was starting to feel sorry for Milly.
Well, now there was no way Amelia could leave. Otherwise, people would say she was heartless again.
While Milly was receiving emergency care, Celia sat beside her, crying and wiping away tears with a tissue.

Is it so wrong that I feel sorry for Milly? You all saw how that man acted–God knows what kind of life she used to live. As a mother, I can’t even bear to imagine not finding her sooner.”
- it. I hate myself for
No one else said a word.
Amelia stayed silent too, but the thought that if this whole thing had been orchestrated by Milly, then she’d just pulled off a major comeback. She now had everyone’s sympathy. So the next time she messed up, this whole crowd would probably rush to defend her again.
She took a deep breath, memorizing the man’s face. She planned to look into him properly when she got back.
It wasn’t until the middle of the night that Milly slowly regained consciousness. But she seemed too weak to speak: she just cried.
Celia held her gently and comforted her. “It’s okay now. It’s all going to be okay. We’ll take care of everything. You just rest.”
Seeing this, Amelia let out a big yawn. Finally, she could leave.
By the time she walked out of the Summers family’s house, it was already three in the morning. Only when she got in her car, she saw an unread message from Dylan.
Just a single question mark.
That’s when she remembered, back at the office earlier today, she’d promised to go to Palm Bay to act as his sleeping pill, helping him fall asleep.
But it was so late now. He was probably asleep by now, right?
She didn’t dare reply and disturb him, so she went straight to her current home instead.
After lying down in bed at home, the face of the man who was causing a ruckus earlier popped into her mind again. He looked familiar, but she couldn’t quite figure out where she’d seen him before.
She was frustrated by her amnesia. It left her feeling powerless in moments like this.
She reached for the little notebook she’d brought from the Summers family’s house. The one sentence in the notebook was written with heavy pressure; whoever wrote it had clearly been overwhelmed with
emotion.
Why couldn’t Dylan be trusted?
