Chapter 149 Don’t Trust Him
As soon as Amelia sat down, Alexander hurriedly plopped down beside her.

The meal went by in awkward silence. Gelia kept up the pretense that everything was in the past, but she still couldn’t warm up to Amelia.
After a brief toast with James, Amelia was pulled upstairs by Alexander.
The Summers family’s second floor had rooms for the three siblings. Amelia was at the far end.
She made a quick stop at her own room. Everything was arranged just the way she remembered, but ever since the memory loss, she’d only stepped in once.
Alexander came knocking on her door. “Amelia, here’s your bag.”
He handed it over almost sneakily. Just as Amelia took it, they both turned to see Milly standing right there in the hallway.
Milly’s face was twisted, her smile fake and cold. “Alexander bought a bag for Amelia? I recognize that model, it’s not cheap. At least 400,000 dollars, right?”
Alexander looked sheepish. “Milly, I…”
But Amelia casually accepted the bag, her demeanor calm and poised. “Yes, he bought it for me. Is that a problem?”
Milly was furious, her eyes full of resentment.
The hand by her side was clenched so tightly her nails nearly broke skin. That fake smile was still plastered on her face. “No, of course not. It’s only right. Given everything that happened, we really do owe you an apology.”

Amelia inspected the bag. She had to admit–her little brother had decent taste. The bag was understated but elegant, something she could actually see herself using.
She reached out and ruffled Alexander’s hair. “Thanks.”
Alexander looked a bit embarrassed. He’d always felt guilty about pressuring her to admit to that incident before. Now, seeing that she didn’t seem to hold it against him, he finally relaxed.
Milly slowly stepped into the room, her tone was still soft and composed. That surprised Amelia.
To her, Milly had always been a petty schemer, not exactly subtle. But tonight, she seemed unusually patient.
“Amelia, I’m going to try on wedding dresses tomorrow. If you’re free, you can come.”
“I’m not. I’ve got work.”
That actually made Milly feel a little better. She figured Amelia must be heartbroken as she watched the man she once loved marry someone else. She was probably going to drown her sorrows in alcohol tonight.
This calm act? Clearly, she was just putting on a brave face.
“Nolan asked me to tell you that the past is in the past. He hopes you’ll, too, let it go.”

Amelia gave a short laugh and looked up at her. “I wish he meant that. But clearly, I’m the one who’s moved on; he hasn’t. He’s been tailing me all day. I couldn’t get rid of him. Shouldn’t you, his fiancée, have a word with him?”
Milly’s face went pale in an instant. She looked like she might collapse.
She came intending to hurt Amelia, but ended up getting hurt in return. It was not what she expected.
The air turned tense.
Amelia, on the other hand, stayed calm and turned away. “If you two have nothing else, could you leave now? I need to pack.”

Alexander quickly grabbed Milly’s hand and led her out. He worried the two would end up arguing again.
Once the door shut, Amelia scanned the room.
The layout was simple. Everything was within sight, drawers and all.
She opened the closet and found a hidden compartment in a discreet corner. It was locked.
Following an old habit, she rummaged through the coats hanging inside and found the key.
If she wanted to deal with everything happening now, she had to learn more about who she used to be. Otherwise, she’d be stumbling in the dark.
She unlocked the drawer. Inside, there wasn’t much. Just a thin notebook. On the first page, a single line was written on it: “Don’t trust Dylan Hale.”
Her grip on the notebook tightened. Her breath slowed. Did she write this?
She flipped through the notebook, hoping for more clues, but the rest was blank.
She searched the rest of the room, but there was barely anything here. It felt like she’d never truly treated this place as home.
She rubbed her temples. Aside from the notebook, she’d found absolutely nothing.
She slipped the notebook into her bag and opened the door to leave, only to hear shouting from downstairs.
“What’s with this guy? Didn’t we already give him a ton of money? He still won’t back off! Honestly, sometimes you just have to take more… extreme measures.” It was Celia shouting, sounding enraged. She was even asking whether they could hire a reliable hitman.
Then came Milly’s tearful voice, pleading with her not to call the police. She was begging not to let else know about this.

Amelia descended slowly and saw four people in the living room looking gloomy and tense. She was a bit surprised. “What’s going on?”
Milly’s crying stopped. Her eyes were red and puffy. “It’s nothing. Just that some crazy relatives from my adoptive parents‘ side found out I’m getting married and came to stir up trouble again.
“They’ve been asking Mom for money for years, and she kept giving it. Now they’re demanding even more. 6 million dollars.”
