Nolan actually felt a twinge of regret. All these years, he had ignored the shining qualities in Amelia, always looking for opportunities to belittle her. Now, he saw someone else secretly eyeing her from the shadows,” and a wave of panic about losing her crashed over him.
Amelia… absolutely could not end up with Dylan.
Since Dylan had chosen to harbor such feelings, then let him stay forever hidden in the shadows. At least for now, Amelia had no idea of his true intentions.
On her way home, Amelia received a message from Dylan. “Progress?”
That’s when she remembered the grand promise she’d made to him before coming. But she had completely chickened out in front of the director.
Right now, her main priority was uncovering who Elias was and how he was connected to her. Only then could she hope to finish the project.
Before she could even start digging into it, James‘ call came through. “Not coming home tonight either?”
Amelia was just about to say she’d broken things off with the Summers family when he quietly added, “Today is my 59th birthday.”
That simple statement unexpectedly tugged at her heartstrings.
She opened her mouth but couldn’t find the words.
“Amelia, at least come home for my birthday. We’ve prepared dinner.”
The words of refusal stuck in her throat. A stifling pressure clenched her chest, and all she could manage was a soft, “Okay.”
When she arrived at the Summers family house, she hadn’t even stepped through the door before she heard Milly’s voice, “Is Amelia not here yet? Did something happen on the way?”
Her tone was full of worry, as if she were genuinely concerned for Amelia’s safety.
A wave of revulsion washed over Amelia. If Milly ever tried her hand at acting, an Oscar would be hers to take.
As she changed her shoes by the entrance, her voice was flat. “I’m back.”
She set the casually bought gift on a side cabinet, not expecting anyone to notice.
But Alexander dashed over in a flash upon seeing her. “Amelia, you’re finally here! You’re staying the night, right? I found a really fun two–player game. We can play together later.
He whispered while sneaking closer, “Didn’t I say I’d make it up to you last time? I know you’ve been wronged. I sold my favorite sports car and bought you a bag.”
He sounded proud but still carefully watched Amelia’s reaction.
A warm feeling blossomed in Amelia’s chest. She reached out and ruffled his hair. “How much was the bag?”
Her question instantly made Alexander scoff, but he was happy. At least Amelia was willing to accept it.

“Over 400.000 dollars. They said it’s a limited edition, but I don’t really get it. I’ll give it to you quietly later, so Milly doesn’t get jealous.”
Alexander was always a big spender with almost no savings. Whenever he needed money, he’d ask the family. So to come up with that kind of money, he’d had to sell his own car.
Milly sat in the living room. She saw how close Alexander and Amelia were, and though she frowned, she held herself together. “Amelia, you’re here.”
Amelia was truly amazed by how shameless Milly was. Even after framing Amelia for her miscarriage, she could still carry on as if nothing had happened.
Amelia walked slowly toward the sofa. But before she could say anything, Milly suddenly dropped to her knees and sobbed, “Amelia, I’m sorry about the baby. I was foolish. I keep having nightmares that Nolan doesn’t want me anymore.
“It’s been really hard on me mentally. My condition is getting worse, and the medicine doesn’t help. That’s why I did what I did. It was my fault, and I’ll make it up to you. Mom bought me that house last time, I can transfer it to you.
As soon as she finished, Amelia answered simply, “Alright.”
Her motion halted mid–bow, fingers tightening in an instant.
Amelia added, “But I don’t want the house. Just give me the equivalent in cash. You should have that much in your account, right?”
Milly’s expression was grim, and a subtle tremor ran through her.
Bitch! This damn bitch!
“And since the pregnancy was fake, and the miscarriage was fake too, then why are you shaking now? I heard your health has always been good, and you’re very active at work. Many execs praise you. Never heard you have a twitching problem?” Amelia thought Milly would snap, but clearly she underestimated her.
Milly lifted her head with a smile plastered on her face. “Amelia, I’ll transfer the money to you later. I’m really glad you came home today. It feels just like old times, all of us together. Please don’t argue with Mom
anymore.”
Celia had kept quiet until now, but the sight of Milly still on her knees, she couldn’t stay silent any longer. “Amelia, tonight’s your father’s birthday. Let’s not fight. I’ll pay Milly’s share and send the money to your account right away.”
Amelia’s lips curled in a faint smile. Returning home with nearly ten million in hand, it was definitely worth the trip.
