Chapter 140 Karma
This hotel belonged to Hale Corporation. It was one of the top establishments in all of Solandic All the at in such a hotel were professionally trained. How could someone have actually dozed off on the job?
“Fire him immediately!”
Yanking his tie, Nolan felt like an inferno was trapped inside him. He was unable to vent his anger.
The hotel manager wiped the sweat from his forehead, bowing low. “That staff member was planning to quit anyway. He just resigned, said his family suddenly hit the lottery jackpot.”
Nolan took a deep breath. He felt utterly frustrated and could only bottle up his feelings. With no surveillance footage to go on, he had no choice but to go home.
A lot had happened at home lately. First, Jessica kept running off to the Hale family estate to complain, and Calum had already grown impatient with her. Eric also hadn’t come home recently, either, ever since the affair came to light.
Slouched in his car, Nolan smoked several cigarettes before finally driving home.
As soon as he stepped through the door, he heard Jessica shouting over the phone. It was clearly a call to Sharon, and she was cursing her out.
“Sharon, dream on! You think sleeping with him will make him care? Let me tell you, he told me you’re useless in bed. Zero pleasure! I don’t have a sister like you. From now on, we’re done!”
Whatever Sharon said in return only sent Jessica into a frenzy. It infuriated her so much that she swept everything off the coffee table in a fit of rage.
The recent scandals had completely stripped away her dignity. Once she had the picture of a perfect wife, but now, that mask had shattered.
Whenever she went out, people would point and whisper. Everyone knew her husband had slept with her own sister.
That shameless bitch even took plenty of photos and videos that night. Now, she was using them to blackmail Eric for money.
Because of that scandal, Calum had thrown two teacups at Eric. Now, he wouldn’t dare let those photos leak out. So every time Sharon demanded money, he paid up.
But greed knew no bounds. After easily pocketing two million dollars, Sharon’s appetite only grew even bigger.
She was actually grateful to Amelia for coming up with such a brilliant scheme. She had managed to rake in two million in such a short time!
But that wasn’t enough. She wanted to push Jessica down and take her place. She had to work even harder for that.
Anyways, with so much dirt on her hands, if anyone dared defy her, she’d drag them all down with her!
Jessica was still fuming over Sharon’s antics. When she looked up and saw Nolan, she quickly smoothed her messy hair.
Chapter 140 Karma
“Nolan, what brings you home today?”
Nolan frowned as he surveyed the mess in the living room, his brows tightening.
Jessica hurriedly motioned for someone to clean up the mess, her eyes turning red.
“Good thing you’re here. I need to talk to you. It’s about Felix. No one knows who he crossed, but he was dumped in the slums. Whe
we found him, he was barely breathing. He was admitted to the ICU this
morning. Even if he survives, the doctor says he’ll be a vegetable.”
Nolan was shocked. “How did this happen? You didn’t find out who did it?”
Jessica, who was known for spoiling Felix, burst into tears and shook her head.
“No. Your grandparents are devastated. He’s their only son.”
Nolan stood up. His head was already a mess from sleep.
everything that had happened tonight. He just wanted to
“Mom, I’ll have someone look into it. I’ll visit him at the hospital another day. Don’t worry yourself over this. He’s made plenty of enemies in Solandis over the years.
Thanks to Jessica’s constant indulgence, she always cleaned up after his messes, no matter what he did. Over time, Felix had become very reckless. Getting beaten up in secret? He probably had it coming.
A very dark thought crept into Nolan’s mind. Felix had lusted after Amelia. Maybe this was karma.
He didn’t know why, but even if he agreed in theory to “give” Amelia to him, if Felix ever laid a hand on her, he knew he’d lose control and do something terrible.
He’d known Amelia for so many years. Somewhere deep down, he had always assumed she would belong to him, always staying by his side for life.
His lashes lowered. At his side, his fist was slowly clenched.
Jessica was still crying, but the shift in her son’s demeanor startled her. She couldn’t help but feel that he had changed too much lately.
“Nolan, what’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing. I’m going upstairs to rest. I won’t be leaving tonight.”
He had his own place elsewhere, but tonight he wanted to stay here. He didn’t want to see Milly, who was probably waiting there for him.
Jessica rubbed her eyes.
“All right, go get some rest. By the way, Carrie came home a few days ago. School’s on break.”
“Okay.”
Nolan had always treated Carrie well, but Jessica had grown up in an environment that heavily favored sons over daughters. It had influenced her deeply that she, too, had become biased toward sons.
She could never treat Carrie as well as Nolan. At best, she maintained the appearance of a loving family.
