This situation would normally be extremely stressful. However, Amelia actually felt herself calm down after she noticed the elderly Mr. Hale Senior behind his mahogany desk, practicing his penmanship.
The door behind her slowly closed, leaving only her and Mr. Hale Senior in the room.
He was dressed in classic attire. After carefully setting down his pen, he rinsed his hands in the basin on the desk.
Amelia bowed her head respectfully as she greeted, “Mr. Hale Senior.”
Calum Hale’s expression remained unchanged as he slowly dried his fingers with a towel.
Amelia didn’t rush to ask the purpose of this meeting. Instead, she stood quietly, as if locked in a silent tug- of–war.
Calum was slightly surprised by her composure. He slowly set down the towel and got straight to the point.
“Dylan is the son I value the most.”
Even if you rounded up all the younger members of the Hale family, they could never compare to Dylan’s importance alone.
Amelia’s posture grew even more respectful.
“Mr. Hale is truly an extraordinary talent and a giant in the business world.”
He narrowed his eyes slightly, sweeping his gaze over her. “You don’t need to play games in front of me, young lady.”
Amelia’s palms were damp with sweat. She quickly looked up.
“Mr. Hale Senior, I understand what you mean. But I haven’t dared to harbor even the slightest improper thought toward Mr. Hale, you’ve likely misunderstood.”
Despite saying this, she felt like it wasn’t enough and explained further, “I stayed in Palm Bay because Mr. Grant instructed me to. Mr. Hale’s insomnia has worsened to the point where it’s affecting his health. I have a rather unusual constitution that seems to work like a sleeping pill for him. That’s the only reason. There’s never been anything inappropriate between us. You can ask Mr. Hale himself if you wish.”
She spoke courteously and with complete transparency
Calum slowly sat down. He picked up a/teacup from the side and skimmed off the foam from the top before taking a sip.
“I trust Dylan. He once vowed he would never marry in this lifetime, because the person he cares about…”
He paused, took another sip of tea, then set the cup down. “If it weren’t for the fact that he chose not to
the matter two years ago, I would never have let you off.”

He must be referring to the car accident.
Amelia felt a chill crawl down her spine, but she forced herself to stay composed. Since she didn’t know the full truth, she dared not speak carelessly.

“Dylan is not someone you can aspire to. Nor would he ever fall for you. His heart belongs to someone else. He’s the only hopeless romantic our family has ever produced.”
It seemed like everyone in the Hale family knew he had loved the late Ms. Grant deeply.
Yet, Ms. Grant’s death was somehow connected to her. How well–mannered must Dylan be, not to have cut Amelia down himself?
She took a deep breath.
“I understand, Mr. Hale Senior. If I ever show even the slightest ambition toward Mr. Hale, you may deal with me however you wish.”
For someone of his background, making someone disappear without a trace would be all too easy.
To protect herself, she added something even she didn’t quite believe.
“Besides, everyone in Solandis knows I have someone I like. Even though we’ve been distant lately, I’ve always hoped he might change his mind. Mr. Hale is indeed outstanding and noble, but to me, he’s not the right person. He’s like the moon in the sky, beautiful and untouchable. But I only prefer the scenery on the ground.”
Calum was surprised at how tactful she was.
He scrutinized her for several seconds before finally looking away.
“If your presence helps with his insomnia, then stay quietly.”
Amelia finally let out a deep breath, only now realizing her back was drenched in sweat.
Just then, the door behind her creaked. She turned around and saw Dylan sitting in his wheelchair.
He must have just arrived. She didn’t know whether he’d overheard the last part.
But whether he had or not didn’t really matter; she meant what she said.
Dylan was the most desired man by countless women. Even having lost the use of his legs, he still topped every eligible bachelor list. Some socialites had even publicly declared their willingness to “accommodate him in any position.”
Such bold declarations were hard to ignore.
Strangely, Amelia’s mind drifted for a moment. If his legs really never healed, what kind of positions would they use?
The sound of the wheelchair wheels rolling snapped her back to reality.
Dylan came up beside her and greeted his father respectfully.
“Father.”
Calum asked with concern, “How is your rehab going?”
“It’s going okay.”
“That’s good. Ms. Summers, you may leave now.”

But the door was left ajar, and no one told her to leave the hallway. So, naturally, she lingered outside, eavesdropping on their conversation.
The first few exchanges were just polite small talk. She hadn’t expected the dynamic between them to be so distant.
“Dylan, are you still waiting for her?”
At that, Amelia’s ears perked up. Her eyes even lit up a little.
Dylan was silent for several long seconds before he finally gave a soft, “Mm.
Calum sighed softly.
“Then do what you want. Just don’t end up alone while Nolan already has kids in his arms. When you’ve made up your mind, let me know. There are plenty of eligible bachelorettes in Solandis. They’re all willing to wait for you.”
