Love in New Memories
Chapter 112 The Truck Incident
Milly was growing impatient. She had never been tolerant of outsiders and often put on airs.
“You have three days to resign from this hospital.”
With that, she turned and walked out, heading back to her room.
Moments later, Amelia stepped into the office.
The middle–aged doctor remained seated, letting out a heavy sigh.
Amelia glanced at the screen beside the door and saw that the doctor’s surname was Duncan.
Just then, his phone rang. It was a call from his family.
“I’ve already sent the money. Tell the kid to be careful with expenses while studying abroad. I have to resign… I don’t want to, but there’s no other way.”
He ended the call, his face drawn with fatigue.
Amelia lowered her head, pretending to be busy herself with the medicine bottles in front of her. After a moment, she spoke quietly.
“Dr. Duncan, you’re so skilled. Why are you resigning all of a sudden? Are you transferring to a bigger hospital?”
Damien let out a weary sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“It’s… complicated. My child got into trouble overseas and needs money urgently. I… never mind. Let’s not get into it.”
Amelia immediately understood that Milly must’ve just paid him a visit.
Milly never left loose ends. Any doctor involved would be taken care of.
“Dr. Duncan, I heard something about Ms. Summers from a relative of mine who used to work as a housekeeper for the Summers family. Apparently, Ms. Summers had falsely accused someone of stealing jewelry. After the accusation stuck, she received 40,000 dollars. But not long after the money landed in her account, she was in a car accident and ended up in a coma. She’s still bedridden. Only someone in a coma or the dead can keep a secret. These rich heiresses are terrifying.”
Damien’s face paled. Already humiliated by Milly’s threats, Amelia’s words clearly rattled him even more.
She calmly placed the medicine bottle on the tray and said nothing further.
Damien grew anxious and shot to his feet. “Is what you said true?”
She nodded.
He snatched a tissue and wiped the sweat from his forehead, his lips trembling.
“You should go.”
Amelia had planted a seed of fear in his heart. He was already feeling guilty about his involvement in the child’s case, and Milly’s attitude only deepened his unease.

Chapter 112 The Truck Incident
ગ
That night, at 10:00 pm, Damien finished his shift and drove home. As he approached an intersection, a large truck suddenly barreled toward him. It was only seconds away from impact.
Panicked, he slammed on the gas, swerved hard, and crashed into the guardrail.
He stumbled out of the car, heart pounding, and watched as the truck sped off without stopping. A chill ran down his spine.
Then he remembered what the nurse had said earlier.
This had to be Milly’s doing. She wanted to silence him for good.
While he was still in shock, a pleasant female voice called out to him.
It was Amelia.
Back at the hospital, she had disguised her voice to sound much deeper. But now, she spoke in her natural
tone.
“Sir, are you alright?”
Her car was parked nearby, as if she had stopped out of kindness.
Damien froze the moment he saw her face. She was Milly’s older sister.
His lips trembled as he hastily adjusted his glasses.
“I’m fine, really. Thank you for your concern.”
Amelia nodded, her brow furrowed as she glanced in the direction the truck had gone.
“These truck drivers are getting reckless. If you hadn’t reacted so quickly, it could’ve ended badly. It’s a good thing you managed to avoid it.”
Damien stood frozen, like a startled bird, his mind buzzing with unease.
Amelia asked with concern, “Do you want me to take you to the hospital? You look really pale.”
“No need. I’m a doctor.”
He couldn’t bring himself to face her. After all, she was the victim in the child’s case.
Amelia offered a gentle smile. “Alright. Just be careful. Wait here for the traffic police. The truck driver won’t get away with this.”
Her kindness only deepened Damien’s guilt. He couldn’t meet her eyes.
Amelia drove off, calm and composed. She didn’t need to do anything more. This man would eventually piece it together and realize Milly had tried to have him killed.
Damien had been waiting at the scene for what felt like forever. When the traffic police finally called him and the truck driver over, he took one look at the burly, rough–looking man and felt his legs begin to
tremble.
This guy was clearly bad news.

He had to be one of Milly’s people.
Damien didn’t dare make eye contact.
But the truck driver stared straight at him like a predator sizing up its prey.

Damien had always been a rule–abiding, old–fashioned kind of man. He’d only helped Milly because he had no choice. Now, caught in what felt like a life–or–death situation, he completely lost his composure. The police officer’s words barely registered.
Just as he was about to leave, he heard footsteps behind him.
The truck driver was following him.
He must be planning to silence him!
Panicking, Damien flagged down a taxi and sped off without looking back.
The truck driver remained where he was, the fierce expression on his face vanishing in an instant. From behind a nearby tree, Amelia stepped out with a bright smile.
“You did great.”
