Chapter 111 Hidden Truths
Dylan had already moved to her side, gently taking hold of her wrist to examine it
Out of the blue. Amelia asked. “Was Carrie adopted?”
With no memories of the past, she couldn’t be sure. But she easily recognized the way a woman looked at a man. Carrie’s eyes held a clear possessiveness whenever she gazed at Dylan.
Just moments ago, when Dylan arrived, the joy, expectation, and intentional closeness in Carrie’s expression
had been impossible to miss.
Dylan steered his wheelchair down the hallway, with Amelia trailing behind, an odd tightness stirring in her chest that she couldn’t quite understand.
After retrieving the first aid kit, Dylan finally responded to her earlier question.
“I found her abandoned by the roadside years ago. I wasn’t ready to raise a child myself, so I entrusted her to someone else.”
That someone was the Payne family, which was how Carrie ended up as Nolan’s sister.
Amelia pressed her lips together, tempted to ask Dylan if he even realized how possessive Carrie was over him.
But ultimately, it was a family matter, something personal to Dylan and none of her concern.
Dylan didn’t bring it up again. Instead, he silently focused on dressing her wound.
Once the bandage was secured, he closed the first aid kit.
Amelia’s fingers curled slightly.
“Mr. Hale, I’ll be leaving soon. I can’t hide here forever.”
She wasn’t sure if Dylan had taken her in out of compassion or obligation, but she knew she couldn’t impose on him indefinitely.
Everything with Milly’s pregnancy had unfolded so abruptly that she still hadn’t figured out how to untangle the situation.
If it continued spiraling out of control, the Hale family would no longer allow her to stay. She had to find a gap in Milly’s story.
As her mind spun with possibilities, Dylan suddenly spoke up.
“Check the hospital.”
She blinked, instinctively responding, “What?”
Then she realized that Dylan was hinting at something.
The hospital. Could there be surveillance footage?.
But with someone as cunning as Milly, wouldn’t she have already erased any evidence?

Her thoughts spin rapidly as a new possibility daved on hey. What if Milly had never been pregnant at What If the entire thing had been fabricated?
Dylan’s next statement seemed to confirm her suspicion.
“No one in the Hale family would risk having a child out of wedlock?
Such a scandal would be disastrous, especially considering Nolan’s complicated relationship with Milly After all, on paper, he was still engaged to Amelia.
Even if Nolan was careless, he wouldn’t be foolish enough to let something so serious happen. Milly’s pregnancy wouldn’t have been that easy.
A glimmer of hope lit up in Amelia’s eyes. Gripping Dylan’s hand, she couldn’t hide her excitement.
“I need to investigate this immediately. Mr. Hale, thank you so much!”
Dylan didn’t respond. He just looked down at their joined hands in silence.
Her hand was unbelievably small.
Amelia didn’t notice. She let go and rushed out, still riding the wave of excitement.
Just as she reached the door, Dylan’s soft voice drifted behind her. “You’re always like this.”
She paused, puzzled, and turned to look at him. “What do you mean?”
“Nothing.”
Amelia flashed him a bright smile. “If I can sort this out, I’ll keep being your sleeping aid. I spoke to Mrs. Sally this morning, and she told me you’ve struggled with insomnia for a long time, but you’ve actually slept well these past two nights. That means I’m still useful, right?”
Her smile was sincere and warm.
Dylan didn’t look at her, only offering a quiet hum.
Amelia sighed. This man really was a bit dull. It was hard to imagine someone so reserved could harbor a secret crush or stay devoted to his first love after all these years. He truly was the best kind of man.
Before talking to Sally, she hadn’t realized how severe Dylan’s insomnia had been.
And yet, he’d slept so soundly these past two nights that even his complexion had visibly improved.
No wonder Jonathan, despite clearly disliking her, still tolerated her presence because Dylan could finally sleep when she was around.
But what was it about her that made her so special? What allowed her to soothe someone so effortlessly?
She couldn’t help but feel a flicker of pride.
On the way to the hospital, she took great care to disguise herself. The Summers family’s bodyguards were actively searching for her, and if she ended up being thrown into a psychiatric hospital, no one would be able or willing to rescue her anytime soon.
Inside the hospital, she followed a nurse into the changing room, slipped into a uniform, and put on a mask

and a pair of glasses.
After wandering the halls for a while, she finally spotted Milly emerging from her ward.
Milly walked briskly toward the doctor’s office and pushed the door open without knocking.
The doctor stood up at once, greeting her with deference.
“Ms. Summers, please have a seat.”
Milly’s expression was cold. “Didn’t I tell you to resign?”

The incident involving the child had deeply unsettled the Hale family. To prevent any future complications, they decided that all doctors connected to the matter had to be dismissed.
The doctor looked visibly distressed. “I’m due for a promotion next month. I swear I haven’t breathed a word of this to anyone.”
Milly narrowed her eyes, a cold laugh escaping her lips. “What are you saying? 600,000 dollars isn’t enough to buy your silence?”
Sweat formed along the doctor’s brow as he reached for a tissue, wiping it away with a trembling hand.
