Chapter 17
I smiled, my eyes crinkling: “You’re the best, mwah!”
She shuddered on the other end: “Ugh… don’t gross me out like that.”
I hung up, still laughing.
Late at night, I went down to the gym to walk off the meal.
After just twenty minutes, my phone rang. It was Rowan.
I hesitated before answering.
As soon as I connected, I heard intermittent gasping sounds from the other end–the intertwining sounds of a man and woman.
A woman’s moans mixed with a male voice: “Rowan, I… I can’t take it anymore… you’re too intense…”
My stomach instantly contracted.
The next second, I bent over and vomited.
The phone in my hand fell to the ground, shattering into pieces.
I don’t know how I made it back to my room.
All night, I thought I would break down.
But I didn’t.
I lay awake, listening to my heartbeat–slow, heavy, but incredibly clear.
I finally understood:
He was completely dead to me now.
When morning came, I got up, washed, and bought a new phone./
At noon, I kept my appointment at the golf club-
As soon as I stepped onto the practice range, I saw Lilith leaning against a golf club waiting for me.
Her pale yellow one–piece sports dress outlined her perfect curves, her wavy hair cascading over her shoulders, looking exactly like a gorgeous fox–wolf ready to strike in a hunting ground.
She narrowed her eyes as she examined me, her tone/disapproving: “Why don’t you wrap your neck too and just become a mummy while you’re at it?”
I laughed: “I’m here for a job, not to hunt.”
I was wearing a water–blue sports outfit, my hair tied in a neat high ponytail, with minimal makeup–clean and composed. This way I could maintain proper boundaries. After all, I was here to meet/Garrett Wylder, not to perform some erotic ritual dance.
“Darling, men fall in love through their eyes,” Lilith rolled her eyes. “Especially someone like Garrett Wylder.”
“If he only wanted to hire beautiful women as secretaries, the position wouldn’t still be vacant.”
“That’s exactly it,” she smiled mischievously. “Beauty plus ability is the ultimate weapon.”
Without waiting for my response, she dragged me to the changing room and threw a set of clothes at me: “The size should be about right. Put it on.”

Chapter 17
I hesitated, but changed anyway.
When I emerged, even I was shocked by my appearance.
A white fitted sleeveless top and black short skirt outlined every curve of my body–slim waist, long legs, well proportioned figure. The outfit exposed the spot where my Alpha mark was, which I had covered with an accessory.
“OMG!!” Lilith covered her mouth with the back of her hand, exclaiming dramatically, “Elara, with that figure, even the prettiest cheerleader in college wasn’t as good as you…. Rowan must have water in his brain to neglect you. How could Moira Ashenford compare to you?”
I didn’t bother responding.
She was already answering her phone: “Hello? We’re coming right over!”
As the golf cart shuttled through the green lawns, passing through the rolling forest paths, I couldn’t help asking her: “Have you met Garrett Wylder before?”
“Ah, it’s a pity. I saw him when I was six, when I went with my father to visit the Wylder family. He was chubby then, like an adorable dumpling Later, my family fell from grace, so we no longer had the privilege to contact them. But–he went to the Nordic Werewolf Royal School when he was ten, so few people in this country have seen him in person.”
While I was still trying to imagine what a “chubby Garrett Wylder” might look like, the golf cart suddenly turned a corner, and I looked up and froze.
At the end of the green carpet–like fairway, two tall, upright figures stood side by side.
One of them was wearing a white custom sports outfit, tall and straight, with broad shoulders, sharp lips, and an air of arrogance and coldness unique to royal Alphas.
My throat tightened, and my mind went blank-
