Amelia, wrapped in a towel, stepped toward the bathroom door. Before she could knock, it opened from within.
Dylan stood before her, a faint flush coloring his handsome face. His damp hair fell loosely over his forehead, giving him an effortlessly alluring, almost decadent look.
Amelia’s hand, suspended in the air, accidentally landed on his chest before she had a chance to withdraw.
He was always impeccably dressed, every button fastened, embodying discipline and control.
But now, with his loose pajamas slightly parted, his bare chest was exposed like a once–distant alpine flower suddenly touched by something unexpectedly sensual.
Her fingers instinctively pressed against his warm, firm skin before she hastily pulled back in embarrassment.
Dylan swept his damp hair back with his hand, the disheveled strands only amplifying his dangerously magnetic allure.
Any woman would have struggled to remain unaffected by the scene.
Startled, Amelia staggered backwards, her back bumping against the wall as though she had witnessed something unsettling.
Her overreaction made Dylan instinctively extend his hand to support her, but she swiftly evaded him.
Leaning back against the wall, Amelia spoke earnestly, “Mr. Hale, given your current condition, I doubt any woman would feel at ease being looked at by you. Perhaps… you shouldn’t be looking at me either.”
Dylan paused briefly before breaking into laughter and heading toward his bed.
He walked over to his bed, sat down, and picked up a book, his tone casual. “Come here.”
Amelia remained by the bathroom wall, looking thoroughly shaken.

It took her a while to calm down. Eventually, she walked over to the sofa and sat down

She lay down, shutting her eyes, though the faint sound of Dylan turning the pages of his book reached her ears. It was still a little early to sleep.
But truthfully, she had nothing better to occupy herself with.
Then, out of nowhere, she recalled that Jonathan was still downstairs.
“Aren’t you going to see Mr. Grant?/He seems to be waiting for you.”
Dylan paused mid–page. “Maybe later.”
He clearly stood Jonathan up.
Amelia was on the verge of smiling when her phone vibrated once more. It was Alexander this time.

With a sigh, she sat up on the couch and answered the call. His voice came through, heavy with blame.
“Amelia, Milly’s been in the hospital all this time. Don’t you feel the slightest bit of remorse? She’s been crying nonstop, and even Nolan can’t comfort her. I can’t believe you’re this cold. Even if you dislike her, you shouldn’t…”
Pressing her fingers to her temples, Amelia spoke evenly, “I’ve already told you that I didn’t push her.
Alexander’s eyes turned red. Yet, he couldn’t forget what he thought he saw.
Celia was right. Amelia had changed. She’d grown cold, distant, and even cruel.
How else could she have gone this far?
His chest tightened. Grabbing his jacket, he turned to leave, but Celia called out after him.
“Where are you going? Milly’s been sobbing nonstop. Can’t you at least say something to comfort her?” Alexander’s irritation surfaced. “I need some fresh air.”
Celia felt completely exhausted. Ever since Amelia came back, the household had known nothing but turmoil.
This time, she was set on having Amelia sent to a psychiatric facility.
She hurried back to Milly’s hospital room, where Milly was speaking on the phone with Nolan’s younger sister, Carrie.
Carrie had always been close to Milly. Though still in school and rarely around, she’d bought baby gifts the moment she heard about Milly’s pregnancy. Now, she had just learned that because of Amelia, the baby was gone.
She was furious. If she could, she’d slap Amelia herself.
Amelia had embarrassed Carrie in public too. Everywhere she went, people would ask about Amelia if she was really obsessed with Nolan, if she had actually jumped into the river to avoid breaking off the engagement.
At first, Carrie brushed off the questions with irritation. Eventually, she just stopped responding altogether. But every day, she urged Nolan to treat Amelia badly.
Still, she never thought Amelia would go this far.
“Milly, I don’t have class this afternoon. I’ll come to see you. Is Nolan with you?”
Milly paused for a moment, then sighed. “Carrie, sometimes I wonder if Nolan still loves me. Lately, he’s been so distracted by Amelia. He barely pays attention to me anymore.”
Carrie’s heart ached at Milly’s words. Hearing this only fueled her rage.
“That bitch! I won’t let her get away with this!”
After hanging up, Carrie immediately shared the news in her group chats, condemning Amelia’s cruelty while praising Milly’s kindness.
As a member of the influential Hale family and a natural social butterfly, Carrie was active in several circles,

In less than thirty minutes, word had spread through their entire social circle that Amelia, out of jealousy, had pushed her sister down the stairs and caused her to miscarry.
