Chapter 229
Sharon glanced up at Jannie, thinking, ‘Honestly, I shouldn’t have believed in their words.
Jannie looked a bit awkward. She really hadn’t meant for things to go sideways.
Riley suggested, “Why don’t we turn our coats inside out and hide the patterns?”
Cameron nodded. “Good idea.”
Sharon helplessly thought, ‘They’re unbelievable.’
“Time’s up. Someone’s coming.” Daniel lay sprawled on the ground, looking like he’d already given up. Either way, he was dead meat, so it didn’t matter whose hands did it.
Sharon frowned, clearly in a foul mood.
At that critical moment, Jannie blurted out, “Boss, you can pretend Daniel kidnapped you. That way, everybody wins, right?”
Sharon’s eyes lit up.
Daniel shot upright. “Deal?”
“Cut the crap,” Sharon snapped.
Sharon agreed and then turned to Cameron. “You go hide.”
People in the House of Obsidian knew what Cameron looked like. If Cameron stayed here, it would be too risky.
“Understood,” Cameron replied. He quickly backed away and hid himself in a blind spot.
A few seconds later, a group of men in black stormed in from all sides, weapons drawn.
One of them shouted, “Nobody moves! Hands up!”
Another said, “Drop your weapons, and you won’t get hurt.”
Inside the warehouse was a mess–clear signs of a fierce fight, and a few people lying motionless on the ground. It was hard to tell if they were dead or alive.
It looked like the warehouse was empty.
Nicholas swept his eyes around, then spotted Daniel dragging a girl out, his hand tight around her neck. Daniel threatened. “Don’t do anything stupid, or I’ll kill her.”
Sharon had a bandage over her mouth, her hands tied behind her back, with bloodstains on her clothes.
Brent said, “Holy shit! Boss, is that—”
“Shut up.” Nicholas cut Brent off. He couldn’t let anyone spill his fiancée’s identity.
His eyes narrowed as he wondered, “Why the hell is she here? Wasn’t Solar Flare supposed to be here?”
He muttered, “Something’s definitely off.”
Brent quickly raised his hand, signaling the guys behind him to hold back.
He thought in shock, ‘Boss‘ fiancée just got taken hostage. This is way too damn unexpected. Can someone tell me why Sharon is here? Even TV dramas

wouldn’t dare pull a twist like this.
Nicholas‘ face was cold, his eyes even colder. “You really think that trick will work on me?”
The air instantly went dead silent.
Daniel’s hand froze, and he thought, ‘Not working? Wait, didn’t they just say it would?‘
Sharon was stunned too. She wondered, ‘What did he mean by that?‘
She stared right at Nicholas. He was dressed all in black, something covering his face so she couldn’t see his features, but she just knew it was him. Brent quickly spoke up, “Yeah, we’re killers, not good guys. Why would we let you go just because of some random hostage?”
Daniel gave a kick. “And what about this one?”
The mastermind was already out cold. They knocked him out to keep him from running his mouth.
Brent thought, ‘Yeah, their identities are still safe for now. If Daniel ever found out who Sharon really is, things would get messy. Good thing Boss reacted the fastest just now.
Nicholas said coldly, “I already gave you a chance.”
Daniel replied, “Yeah, but your people need to back off. Otherwise, I’ll kill them.”
Daniel tightened his grip on Sharon’s neck. “This girl’s from the Vance family, right? Are you guys really just going to stand there and watch her die?”
Daniel wasn’t stupid, and he’d figured out a lot from what just happened.
If Sharon was willing to be a hostage, it meant she knew the people outside.
From the way the two leaders reacted earlier, he knew he’d guessed right. Maybe the mastermind didn’t matter, but Sharon was the real bargaining chip.
As he spoke, Daniel squeezed Sharon’s neck even tighter, and her face quickly changed color.
Sharon thought bitterly, ‘Not being able to breathe really sucks. Nicholas, what are you going to do?‘
The air in the warehouse turned heavy and tense.
Nicholas‘ whole vibe shifted–his eyes were icy and deadly, his profile sharp as a blade. He stared hard at Daniel. “I won’t forget you.”
“Good, kid. Maybe we’ll get another shot at this someday.” Daniel let out a small sigh of relief. He knew they would agree. Now he felt relieved that he had a shot at getting out.
He quickly said, “Half an hour isn’t enough. I need an hour. I’ll leave her somewhere safe when it’s done.”
“No. You only have half an hour,” Nicholas insisted.
“Young man, you’re in no position to bargain with me. She’s in my hands.” Daniel kept his grip on Sharon and shot his men a look, hinting them to move.
If they didn’t leave now, who knew what might happen next.
Sharon was dragged away by the neck, looking pitiful and completely helpless.
Nicholas suddenly raised his gun, aiming it straight at Daniel, his eyes cold and full of menace.
“W–What are you trying to do?” Daniel quickly yanked Sharon in front of him, using her as a shield while he hid behind her. “If you dare make a move,

she’ll die too.”
Nicholas‘ gaze was icy. “Don’t you dare lay a linger on her, or I’ll make you wish you were dead.”
Even someone as sophisticated as Daniel was rattled by Nicholas‘ presence. Daniel thought, ‘This kid is seriously dangerous?
