Chapter 225
In that instant, the whole atmosphere changed.
But as Nicholas‘ men moved in, explosions ripped through the ground. Invisible wires around the warehouse were rigged with high–voltage électricity, and most of the first wave was taken out.
Nicholas frowned. “Everyone fall back and stay hidden.”
He thought, I knew something was off, Shit, it’s a trap
The team leader was stunned. “What the hell just happened?”
“There’s an ambush.” Nicholas‘ face was ice–cold as he stared at the warehouse. “Turn on the infrared scanner. I want to know exactly how many people
are inside.”
“Understood,” said Brent. He then hurried off.
Margaret frowned. “Let me check on the wounded.”
Nicholas nodded, eyes fierce, his grip tightening on his weapon. He cursed inwardly, ‘Damn it!‘
“Mr. Baxter, I think we’ve already tipped them off. Why not just storm in?” said the team leader.
Nicholas turned, his gaze sharp as a knife. “I’m in charge here. Either shut up or get lost.”
The team leader’s face darkened. In the end, he could only swallow his anger. There was no way he could go up against Nicholas.
The explosions outside were loud and clear.
Sharon was down in the basement, about to put some pressure on the guy behind all this and see if she could squeeze out any more info.
But before she could even start, she and Jannie–both covered in blood and looking downright murderous–had already scared the guy half to death.
The guy freaked out on the spot. “Don’t come any closer. Please, don’t kill me. I swear, I’ve got nothing to do with this.”
“Boss, this guy’s a total wimp,” Jannie said, shaking her head.
Jannie leaned in, voice cold. “Spill everything if you want to live. Otherwise, I’ll slice you up and toss you into the wild.”
“I–I’m just the guy who installed the cameras. I don’t know anything, I swear!” the man stammered.
“Who told you to set up the cameras?” Sharon pressed.
“I just picked up a job on the Hunter Forum. If I’d known it’d be such a mess, I never would’ve taken it. The so–called protection on that forum is useless. I still got caught,” he complained, looking miserable.
Sharon clicked her tongue, staring him down. “You just had the bad luck to run into me.”
“Which job was it?” she demanded.
If it was from the Hunter Forum, Sharon could track it down.
After the guy gave her the details, Sharon checked the backend. The job was posted by a brand–new account–logged in once to post the task, then vanished.
Chapter 225
Sharon narrowed her eyes, thinking. This is clearly premeditated. But as long as there’s a digital trail, there are no recite mun
Just then, another explosion sounded outside. Sharon’s brow furrowed, and she thought, ‘Something’s up!
Her face changed instantly, and she fushed outside. Daniel was already pulling his people back, calling out, “There’s an ambush out there
“Who is it?” asked Sharon.
Daniel replied. “No idea yet. They look like someone from the academy, but those guys aren’t dumb enough to walk right into our traps. For not sure who they are, but they’re definitely not here for a friendly chat.”
Daniel looked grim–he was terrified of dying.
He came to find fault with Sharon, and now they were targeted. He thought, If this girl hadn’t been dodging us all this time, maybe we wouldn’t be in
this mess.
Daniel was so mad that he gritted his teeth. But there was nothing he could do about Sharon now. He could only swallow his anger and ask, “So what do we do?”
Sharon glanced out the window. The spot where the explosion happened was already empty–any wounded had been moved, leaving only bloodstains on the ground..
Her mood took a nosedive as she thought, ‘Whoever they are, they’re well–trained. I bet we’re surrounded.‘
She looked at Daniel. “Did you leak our location?”
“How the hell would I know? Maybe they followed you. Remember what happened with your family’s side branch? Someone’s out to get you,” Daniel replied.
Deep down, Daniel wasn’t so sure himself. He really didn’t know who the target was.
Sharon’s frown deepened as she thought, ‘What now? If I get caught or something
‘If it was just me, it’d be fine. But now Daniel’s here too. If anyone sees us together, there’s
no
here, how am I supposed to explain this to my brothers?
way we’ll be able to explain this.‘
Sharon mulled it over, then fixed Daniel with a stare, seriously debating whether she should just kill him to keep him quiet.
After all, dead men can’t talk. She could always whip up some excuse and get away with it.
Daniel coughed awkwardly. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
A chill ran down his spine. “I’m warning you, I’ve got people outside. If you lay a finger on me, I’ll have them blow your cover.”
Daniel surely could tell Sharon didn’t want her identity to be exposed.
He could also tell that Sharon’s look just now screamed she wanted to silence him for good.
Daniel thought, ‘Damn, she really is Boss‘ protégé. She’s so ruthless with her methods.‘
Sharon arched an eyebrow. “You’ve got it all wrong/That’s not what I meant.”
Daniel thought, ‘No, that’s exactly what you meant. Don’t think I’m blind. I saw right through you.‘
