Love in New Memories

Chapter 93 A Serious Threat

Amelia hid behind a nearby folding screen, frozen in place as if paralyzed

She had always believed Dylan to be a rational, even emotionally detached man. Yet, to her surprise, he was deeply devoted. His beloved had been gone for seven years, and still, he waited, And judging by his tone. he intended to keep waiting

Realizing she had overheard more than she should, she turned to find another exit. Just as she was about to leave, Jonathan swung the door open

They collided directly

Jonathan, dressed in a suit and visibly agitated, looked at her with thinly veiled disgust. What are you doing here?”

He brushed off his jacket, as if something filthy had touched it, then grabbed Amelia by the collar and dragged her toward Dylan

Rounding the screen, they came upon Dylan and Logan scated on a black couch. Jonathan flung Amelia onto an unoccupied twoseater, where she landed hard

Jonathan gave a dry, sarcastic laugh and lit a cigarette. She was hiding behind the screen, eavesdropping. Neither of you noticed?”

This private room was one of Jonathan’s favorites. Not because it was classy, but because it was chaotic enough to avoid his family’s watchful eyes. If they knew he was back, they’d surely pressure him into meeting the wife he never acknowledged

He’d rather stay in such a place than face the arranged marriage

Amelia winced from the impact but quickly steadied herself. Mr. Hale, Mr. Chase. I ended up here by mistake.”

Jonathan snorted. With how shady you looked, that’s hard to believe. Seems more like you were deliberately hiding. Amelia, didn’t I warn you before? Stay away from me, or I won’t be held responsible for what I might do.”

He punctuated the threat by pulling out a gun and snapping the magazine into place with practiced ease

A cold chill climbed Amelia’s spine. He was serious and insane enough to bring a loaded weapon to a bar

She instinctively ducked behind the couch where Dylan sat

Holding a glass of liquor, Dylan spoke with calm authority. Jonathan, put the gun down.”

Jonathan frowned but obeyed, setting the weapon aside with a scoff

Amelia, get out.His words are sharp

Amelia wasn’t naive. It was clear both Logan and Jonathan disliked her intensely. Though at least Logan didn’t threaten her with violence

What on earth had she done in the past to earn such animosity

By all logic, Dylan should feel the same way. So why had he intervened? Her thoughts churned. Perhaps it

was because of Nolan

She gulped. I’ll go now”

But just as she took a step, Dylan spoke again. The men outside are waiting for you?”

She froze. Those drunk men were still outside

The only reason they hadn’t stormed in was because of the powerful men in this room. If she left now, she’d walk straight into danger. But staying was no better, Jonathan’s glare was deadly enough

Amelia took a steadying breath. She glanced around for another exit. There are only two doors, and no guarantee that either is safe

After a long pause, she reluctantly sat down at the edge of the couch where Dylan sat

He was near the center, but she curled into the far end, trying to make herself as small as possible

Jonathan seemed ready to launch another insult, but upon seeing Dylan’s expression, he held his tongue and changed the subject. Dylan

When you two go back, don’t mention you saw me.”

Jonathan returned quietly on Dylan’s private jet. Almost no one knew he was back

He had spent three years abroad, thinking his family would dismiss the arranged marriage. However, the woman had been a part of the Grant family for three years. She even lived in the house prepared for their married life

Though he had never set foot in that house, just knowing he was technically marriedmade his skin crawl. This time, he was back to end it, and he wanted his friendshelp

Dylan had also spent two years abroad, and he had met the woman in question

She’s not bad. Maybe you should give it a try,” Dylan said

What? Are you serious? She’s from a lowclass family. If her parents hadn’t leveraged an old favor to manipulate my grandfather, would she ever have married in? What’s the difference between that and selling her off? She’s just a commodity the family traded for status.”

Disdain clouded Jonathan’s eyes as he twirled his glass. She’s good at playing the long game. No one but my grandfather visited her in three years, yet she never complained. Looks like she’s determined to hold onto that title, no matter what.”
