Chapter 16

Steve happened to be saying something to Eric, but the latter didn’t even bother listening to a single word. All he wanted was to whisk the magical box home as soon as possible.
Suddenly, a skinny figure appeared behind him. She began kicking and punching him for no reason. “Eric Fulmer, I’ve been with you for so long! I even aborted my child for you! What makes you think you can just take away the money, cars, and properties you gifted to me in the past?”
Eric instantly frowned while looking at Ingrid in disgust.
He initially thought that Ingrid was a docile and submissive woman, which was why he decided to lend her a hand out of pity. As for why she was able to seduce him and lure him into her bed, he found out afterward that she had used aphrodisiacs on him, causing him to get hooked on her body.
That was why Eric recalled everything he had ever given to Ingrid out of pity on the day he found out about the truth. Not only did he force her to get an abortion, but he also gave orders for the loan sharks to keep urging the Hansons to clear the debts.
If it weren’t for Ingrid, Penelope wouldn’t have died in the first place.
The recollection of the chat history between Ingrid and Penelope made Eric tremble
uncontrollably out of fury. He dared not imagine how heartbroken his beloved Penelope was
back then.
Since Ingrid was the root of this disaster, Eric wanted that materialistic bitch to suffer from a
fate worse than death.
Eric kicked Ingrid away disdainfully, watching as she collapsed to the floor next to the table.
“Now that you’re penniless, does it hurt whenever you get beaten up by those debtors? You’re definitely doing something right if you feel pain! But your pain is nothing compared to the pain Penelope felt when she jumped off the cliff!”
Upon hearing Eric’s words, Ingrid’s expression warped into one of malice. Her innocent facade completely disappeared. She gritted out through her teeth, “Were you the one who ordered those debtors to humiliate me and my family?”
Eric’s lips curled into a mirthless smile. There was nothing but frost in his eyes. “You should be thanking me for not sending maggots like you and your family directly to hell.”
Ingrid couldn’t believe it. The man who used to dote on her actually turned on her. Not only did he retract his gentle side and the benefits he had once showered her with, but he had also ordered others to humiliate her. To make things worse, she was left with an injured and

battered body.
She could only glare at Eric while grinding her teeth angrily.

Just as Eric packed up his stuff and was about to leave, Ingrid picked up a fruit knife that was left on the table before plunging it into his body.
What shocked her more was that Steve remained seated with his leg crossed over the other despite having witnessed her actions. There was no trace of emotion in his
eyes.
Before Ingrid could snap out of her trance, Eric collapsed to the floor with a loud thump. Did… Did she just kill him?
Alarmed, Ingrid could only back away from Eric’s body. Her mind went blank when she saw the blood staining her hands.
By the time she regained her senses once again, she had already changed into an inmate’s
uniform.
Steve had his fill watching Eric getting whisked away in an ambulance and Ingrid getting taken away in cuffs. After taking a sip of the cooled coffee, he began drafting a text on his phone. “Penelope, just accept the watermelons, mangoes, and spinach. Think of them as a gift for recording the messages in the AI bionic box.”
Steve thought for a moment before deleting the final sentence, which he had intended to send. It initially wrote, “When I get back, I’ll give you a farm.”
Penelope loved eating vegetables and fruits. Unfortunately, the weather in Islanthia was cold and frigid. It was insanely difficult to procure fresh produce in the local market, so Steve had been flying in the produce from Cheronia via his helicopter this whole time. His excuse to Penelope was that he was able to buy fresh produce at the market.
Penelope was quick to call Steve on the phone. “Where did you get the mangoes? They’re so big and fresh!”
Steve smiled in return. “It’s worth it as long as you like them.”
“Are my voice messages really worth this many precious fruits? Fresh tropical fruits are a lot more valuable than gold in Islanthia! Once you’re back, I must gift you more flowers!”
“Yeah. Don’t think too much about it. Those voice messages seriously helped me out big time.”
Steve ended the call with a wide smile on his face. Then, he looked at his calendar. If everything else continued to proceed that smoothly, he’d be able to fly back to Islanthia to see Penelope again in less than a week.
