Chapter 12
Meanwhile, Ingrid was still lying on the hospital bed. She was already fine, yet she still insisted on prolonging her stay in the hospital for a few more days.
She had just closed the wedding’s live stream, which she had been watching earlier. Then, she pressed her phone against her chest in an attempt to calm her pounding heart.
Did Penelope seriously commit suicide? Why did it feel so… unreal to Ingrid?
Ingrid wasn’t sure which emotion had her by the reins. Was it excitement or fear? After all, her provocation was the main reason behind Penelope’s death.
It was precisely due to that reason that Ingrid deleted all of her chat history with Penelope. At the same time, she prayed fervently that Penelope had jumped off the cliff with her phone.
Of course, Ingrid couldn’t conceal her elation at all. Now that Penelope was dead, Ingrid would most likely become Eric’s wife. No matter what, she was destined to marry him.
The debtors were starting to urge her family to clear their debts. That meant Ingrid had to get
her hands on Eric no matter what.
Ingrid pressed the nurse call button while immersed in her thoughts. It was already lunchtime.
According to the rules set for private wards, Ingrid should have received a lunch set delivered
from a five–star hotel by now. But for some reason, the meal wasn’t here yet.
Ingrid was dissatisfied, to say the least. Just how dense was the medical staff? How dare they treat the future Mrs. Fulmer like this?
She continued scrolling through her phone impatiently.
Finally, the ward door was opened from the outside. A gust of cool breeze swept inside.
Ingrid didn’t bother looking up from her phone. Instead, she demanded aggressively, “What took you so long to deliver my lunch? Are you that eager to lose your job?”
The next thing she knew, a huge shadow was cast down on her form. By the time she finally raised her head to see the newcomer, she grew so terrified that her face went pale.
Eric hadn’t been able to rest for the past 24 hours. He didn’t even get to change into fresh
clothes. At the moment, his face was practically colorless. Both his face and his body were still coated in his and Penelope’s blood. At first glance, one might think that he was a ghost rather than a living human being.
“E–Eric? What happened to you?”
Eric’s lips curled into an eerie smile. “Ingrid Hanson, what made you think you got to provoke

Penelope without any consequences? Since you killed Penelope, I’ll make sure that you’ll rot in hell!”
Upon hearing Eric’s death threat, Ingrid shed all pretenses of being ill and weak. She got out of bed instantly, hoping to flee from the ward. But Eric was quick to yank her back to the bed before he proceeded to strangle her with one hand.
Ingrid did her best to claw at his hand while using all of her strength to scream for help and beg for mercy. But Eric remained unmoved. If anything, he began tightening his grip around Ingrid’s neck.
Just as Ingrid was about to pass out, Esther showed up behind Eric right on time. She shoved Eric away with all her might before slapping him across the face.
While Eric was stunned, Esther took the opportunity to shield Ingrid from him. “What the hell are you doing? Ingrid is still pregnant with your baby!”
Eric just chuckled coldly in response. “Penelope is already dead! Both Ingrid and that bastard child in her womb must pay the price with their lives!”
Esther began wailing at the top of her lungs in dramatic agony. “Woe is me! Just when I’m about to become a grandmother, my own son decides to murder his future wife and child in cold blood so that he can spend the rest of his life rotting in jail! I might as well kill myself right here, right now!”
Her wails reverberated throughout the entire floor. The medical staff as well as the patients next door all crowded outside Ingrid’s ward.
Noticing that more onlookers had gathered in the corridor, Eric shot Ingrid a frosty look. Then, he flashed a frightening smile at her. “You won’t be able to escape from your fate even if you have my mom and your baby as a lifeline.”
Ingrid had just managed to regain her senses when she saw Eric squeezing out of the crowd, still coated in blood. The sight made her tremble out of fear. Meanwhile, Esther quickly summoned a doctor and had him conduct a check–up on Ingrid’s baby.
The three had been too immersed in their own thoughts and emotions to notice the phones
that had been aimed at them in the crowd.
