Chapter 222
Nicholas had already changed into a black uniform. The brim of his cap was glosty and pitch black, and his eyes were sharp and serious
There wasn’t any sign or badge on his clothes to show he was from the academy.
When they were on a mission, they couldn’t wear their school uniforms which would blow their cover.
After all, Oriston Academy was a legit school, not some place crawling with violence.
Brent walked over and reported, “Boss, the academy just sent over some special weapons.”
Nicholas turned his head and saw a few crates being carried in. He asked in surprise, “Why are they suddenly sending these over?”
The academy’s supervisor spoke up, “We’ve got reliable intel that Daniel, the main admin of the Hunter Forum, is also heading over to meet with Solar Flare. That guy’s fighting skills are no joke. We need these if we want to keep casualties down and actually catch them.”
Nicholas frowned. “Aren’t you worried this will cause too much of a scene?”
The supervisor replied, “Relax. We’ve already locked down the road. Every vehicle going over there is ours, and no outsiders will get involved.”
“What’s the deal between Daniel and Solar Flare?” Nicholas asked.
He wondered, ‘Why is the academy suddenly making such a big deal out of this?‘
“Our guess is, they might be working together. Solar Flare has kept a low profile for years, but now that she’s shown up, she’s a huge threat. No idea what she and Daniel are meeting for, but it can’t be anything good.”
The supervisor pushed up his glasses, his tone ice–cold. “This time, we wipe them out. We gotta kill them all.” His voice was downright cold–blooded.
Nicholas looked at the stuff in the crates, then finally nodded. “Take everything. Hand them out to each team leader. No one uses them unless I give the
order.”
The supervisor frowned, thinking Nicholas was being way too cautious.
He looked at Nicholas and said, “Mr. Baxter, this is war. Showing mercy will only bring disaster. They’re nothing but criminals with no conscience, no humanity. The only place for them is hell.”
“I get it. As long as the mission gets done, how it’s done is up to me.”
Nicholas met the man’s gaze, his eyes sharp, making it clear he wouldn’t take no for an answer.
“The last thing a gatekeeper needs is mercy,” said the supervisor.
He watched as Nicholas led his team away, letting out a quiet sigh. He thought, ‘A genius like him, still holding onto that innocence. Who knows if that’s a blessing or a curse?
‘Nicholas has been a gatekeeper candidate for a long time.
‘Generation after generation, gatekeepers have come and gone, and now things have ended up like this. Who can say what the future holds?
‘If the day ever comes when the gatekeeper can’t hold the line, what will become of this world? Maybe that’ll be the end of everything.‘
Nicholas sat in the back seat as the car pulled away, his long legs folded up, a deadly weapon resting in his hands.
His slender fingers traced its surface, his eyes fixed on it for a long moment.

Brent couldn’t help but speak up, “Boss, don’t do this.”
Being a gatekeeper meant he had to follow the rules.
Nicholas leaned his head back against the seat, closed his eyes, and didn’t say a word.
But right then, the air around him changed. The sunny, aloof chairman was gone–replaced by a cold, iron–blooded enforcer.
Just then, his phone chimed.

He set a special ringtone. He pulled out his phone and glanced at the screen. It was from his mother. Wendy spoke up, “Is Shari off today? Bring her over to the house for dinner.”
Nicholas replied, “Okay.”
Then he opened his chat with Sharon, passed along his mom’s invitation, and his lips lifted in a faint smile.
He turned to look out the window at the sunlight and the carefree people passing by.
This was what made it all worth it. To keep the darkness forever locked away and protect the light.
On the other side of the highway, Sharon’s phone buzzed. She glanced down and saw that Nicholas had sent her a message, inviting her to dinner.
She looked at it but didn’t reply. They were almost at the warehouse now, and she had business to handle.
Ten minutes later, the car pulled up at the warehouse. Outside, a row of armed men stood guard with weapons aimed right at them.
Cameron poked his head out for a look, then drove straight into the warehouse.
The car door opened. Sharon stepped out and swept her gaze over the place. She noticed plenty of people lying in wait.
She spoke slowly, “Daniel, you’re still scared of dying, huh?”
“Who isn’t? If I’d acted like my previous boss, I’d be dead by now. He was too full of himself. That’s why he’s gone.” Daniel stepped out from the side.
He was a middle–aged man, thin and wiry, but those sharp eyes made it clear he wasn’t someone to mess with.
Daniel gave Sharon a good look. “Haven’t seen you in years, and you’re still as short as you used to be.”
Sharon’s face instantly darkened. She complained inwardly, ‘Of all things, he just has to bring that up, right?‘
