Chapter 72 Web of Schemes and Broken Hearts
“He’s cold to everyone, including me,” Amelia replied.
“Even after he helped you during your period, you think he’s cold?”

Amelia suddenly found herself at a loss for words. She opened Dylan’s Venmo, hesitated for a long time. and finally sent him a message.
“Mr. Hale, are you asleep?”
It took ten minutes before he replied.
“No.”
“Thank you for helping me tonight.”
“Okay.”
What did “okay” mean?
Amelia couldn’t figure it out. Dylan was so hard to read.
Was it really he who changed her clothes and helped her shower?
She tossed and turned for another half hour, sweating with anxiety but too afraid to ask directly.
If she didn’t ask, how could she face him tomorrow?
Meanwhile, Dylan sat in his study, propping his head up with one hand as he stared at his phone.
It was as if he could feel her anxiety through the screen.
He ignored the documents before him. He put his phone down, heard it vibrate again, but ignored it.
Amelia overthought everything until dawn. The next day, she arrived at the top floor of the company. Nathan immediately led her to her workstation.
Her desk was nothing special, but anyone visiting Dylan’s office would have to pass by it.
At lunchtime, she still fretted over how to face Dylan, but he never showed up that day.
He didn’t show up the next day either.
Relief washed over Amelia as her worries melted away, and she focused on her work.
Elsewhere, Nolan sat drunk in a bar, repeatedly staring at his phone.
Amelia had transferred departments without his permission and was refusing to see him.
He sensed this time she was serious–she really wasn’t coming back.
That realization made him restless.
Just as he reached for another drink, someone grabbed his wrist.

“Nolan, Timothy said you’ve had a lot to drink tonight. Are you upset about something?”
Nolan didn’t know why, but ever since the Sienna Valley incident, he’d been paying extra attention to Amelia.

She wasn’t as useless as he’d thought. And she was undeniably beautiful. She used to treat him very well, too.
“Are you drinking because of Amelia? She messaged me tonight, saying you’d definitely change your mind this time.”
Milly knew exactly what Nolan cared about. He’d always been in control in his relationship with Amelia, so he couldn’t stand being played by her.
If he found out this was just one of Amelia’s tricks, the subtle changes in his heart would turn cold again.
Nolan immediately sat up straight. “She really messaged you?”
A cold glint flashed in Milly’s eyes. Amelia had truly gotten under Nolan’s skin this time. That wouldn’t do.
She was determined to win him over completely.
“Yeah. I guess she knew I was feeling down lately and wanted to rub it in.”
“That woman!” Nolan cursed, but a hint of satisfaction gleamed in his eyes.
So Amelia still cared about him, after all.
Milly helped him up and got him into a car.
She had called Timothy earlier that night. He’d had a crush on her for ages, and she’d never outright rejected him–he was still useful.
Besides, Timothy was the young master of the Chase family. She wanted every man in their circle wrapped around her finger.
As they left the bar, Timothy couldn’t take his eyes off Milly.
A man’s gaze could say a lot, but Milly only gave him a bitter smile.
“I never thought Amelia would put on such a convincing act this time. It feels like Nolan is about to leave me behind.”
“Impossible! You’re so wonderful, Milly. Nolan must be blind for not wanting you.”
Tears instantly welled up in Milly’s eyes. “It’s not his fault, it’s Amelia’s. I already suffered of her recently, and my family has been cold to me ever since. Let’s just drop it.”
“Milly, if you ever need anything, just tell me. If Nolan won’t help you, I will.”

“It’s nothing. I just don’t feel comfortable knowing she’s working at the same company as Nolan. I’ll get over it myself. Thank you, Timothy.”
With that, she turned and got into the car, her very posture radiating loneliness.
Timothy’s heart ached for her, and his resentment toward Amelia only grew.

Chapter 72 Web of Schemes and Broken Hearts
If Nolan despised her so much, why wouldn’t she just let go of him? How shameless.

But lately, Logan had been watching him, so he dared not make any big moves. Instead, he thought of Feliz
Felix probably resented Amelia just as much and was itching for revenge.
He immediately called Felix.
Felix’s situation was complicated–he was Nolan’s uncle. Even if something happened, Nolan’s overprotective mother, Jessica, would step in. The only one to suffer would be Amelia, who had no one to rely on.
Amelia worked peacefully on the top floor for a week, feeling quite content. Not only were the staff here capable, they’re always busy. Most importantly, no one cared about her personal gossip.
