Chapter 58
Rishima lowered her gaze, saying nothing.
She understood that while Zvonimit appeared to be punishing Daryl to avenge her, in reality, he was warning the wolves present that his orders wert absolute. After three years as his mate, she had long since seen through his frue nature.
“I’m talking to you, why aren’t you answering me?!” Not hearing a response from Rishima, Zvonimir’s temper flared. He gripped her face tightly, forcing her to look into his eyes. “Are you feeling unwell again? You just threw up all the wine earlier! Hmph, you only had a little wine, there’s no need to act so dramatic. I know you too well–stop pretending to be weak.”
At last, Rishima opened her mouth to speak. “I’m not happy. I want to go outside and get some fresh air.
“Not happy?” Zvonimir, already suppressing his anger, suddenly burst into laughter upon heating her words. His gaze softened slightly as he looked at her. “Then what would make you happy? Do you want me to f*** you right here? Why didn’t I realize before how shameless you are?”
Unable to hold back any longer, Rishima slapped Zvonimir’s hand hard. “Let go of me! You may be mad, but I’m still sane. All the wolves in this room follow your commands. Do whatever you want, but don’t drag me into your dirty games. If you regret severing our mate bond, then we can reconnect it now. After that, you can do whatever you want with me.”
Michael and Ryan were so shocked their jaws dropped, simultaneously blurting out, “What? What the fuck?!”
Clearly, they hadn’t expected Rishima to be so defiant!
Though Zvonimir had always understood Rishima, her words provoked him so much that he completely lost control. His retort was laced with venom: “Are you dreaming? If you want to reconnect our mate bond, then give me a wolf pup. Damn it, you can’t even give me one! What right do you have to talk about reconnecting? I didn’t even ask you for a natural–born Alpha pup, and you still couldn’t deliver! Useless!”
As Zvonimir finished, the banquet hall fell into an eerie silence. All eyes turned toward Zvonimir and Rishima.
Rishima’s whole body trembled as she stood up mechanically, tears welling in the corners of her eyes. She looked at Zvonimir and spoke slowly, enunciating each word: “That’s right, I can’t conceive. That’s because my womb was damaged! Zvonimir, I should never have taken that bullet for you. I should let you die!”
Zvonimir’s face twisted in fury, his rage making him look feral as he kicked the table with all his might.
The table flew across the room, sending bottles and glasses crashing to the floor with a cacophony of shattering glass.
Some cowardly wolves began to tremble. No one in the room dared to make a sound; even those mid–drink didn’t dare swallow, holding the wine in their
mouths.
At that moment, Zvonimir’s expression was thunderous, the Alpha’s oppressive aura filling the room.
As submission to strength was instinctual for wolves, several of them collapsed to the floor under the weight of the Alpha’s power. Even Michael and Ryan, both Alphas, couldn’t help but feel a tremor of fear before Zvonimir.
However, apart from her slightly pale face, Rishima remained calm, seemingly unaffected by Zvonimir’s domineering présence. She said, “I’m stepping out to make a phone call. You all carry on.”
“Try leaving, and see what happens!” Zvonimir grabbed her arm, his grip so tight it felt like he might crush her bones.
Fearing further conflict, Ryan quickly restrained Zvonimir, lowering his voice to reason with him. “Let her go outside. Pushing her too far won’t end well. Aren’t you sticking to Michael’s plan? Let her step out for a bit.”
At the mention of Michael’s idiotic plan, Zvonimir glared at him with murderous intent.
Michael silently lamented: if he made it out of this banquet alive, he would never host another party for Zvonimir again. Too dangerous!
Seeing Zvonimir’s anger subside slightly, Ryan reassured him, “Relax! Let her take a break outside. Nothing will happen.”
Only then did Zvonimir release Rishima.
