Chapter 45 Her Selfishness
It was Dylan.
Dylan’s presence was so commanding that even when he
sitting in a wheelchair, he was hard to igrare.
Milly had seen Dylan a few times before. At the time, she was utterly fascinated, and her mind was full of fantasies. If a man like him could fall in love with her and go crazy for her, she would be the most famous woman in all of Solandis.
But ever since Dylan’s accident, she had stopped dreaming about those things. He used to be very impressive, but now he was just a cripple.
Besides, even when his legs were fine, he’d always treated her with indifference, which stung her pride
When she heard about this accident, she felt relieved.
Dylan was perfect, but he didn’t belong to anyone. He was meant to be broken and alone for the rest of his life.
Nolan quickly greeted him respectfully, “Dylan.”
Milly followed suit, “Hello, Dylan.”
Dylan’s gaze fell on their intertwined hands, his tone cool. “Who taught Ms. Summers to address me that way?”
Milly hadn’t expected him to embarrass her so directly. She froze, her cheeks flushing red.”
But this was Dylan, who is now in charge of the Hale Corporation. He remained at the center of power and influence, despite his disability. He was someone whom no one wanted to upset.
Milly felt her face burning. Why?
Why had he always been so mean to her, even before and now?
Wasn’t she pretty? Many people loved her, including her family and even Nolan’s friend Timothy, who was deeply in love with her.
In her experience, all it took was a coy gesture or a pitiful look, and men would fall over themselves to please her.
Except for Dylan.
Maybe it was her competitive nature, but the more Dylan kept to himself and acted cool, the more she wanted to see him lose it for her.
Just wait, she thought. Sooner or later, she’d win this man over.
Nolan quickly wrapped his arm around Milly’s waist. “Dylan, my engagement to Amelia is just a formality now. She’s the one who refuses to end it, but it’s Milly I love. I will marry her.”
He felt a pang of guilt as he said he’d marry Milly, because lately, Amelia had grown distant, and that had
started to bother him.
Dylan turned away, and his voice got even colder. “Amelia was the one who saved you when you fell into the

water. You promised everyone that you would marry her back then.
Nolan stiffened, as if only remembering how his engagement to Amelia had come about.
He and Amelia had been friends since they were kids because their mothers were close friends, but the engagement wasn’t planned from the start. He’d asked for it because Amelia had saved his life.
But Amelia had been too friendly to him over the years, always going out of her way for him and making herself look cheap.
Over time, he had come to think that Amelia would never leave him. She never did.
His mind was racing when he felt a pair of hands wrap around his arm. Milly whispered in a voice that only they could hear, and it sounded sad. “Nolan, Dylan has always been nice to Amelia. Do you think he might…
“Impossible!” Nolan cut her off instantly, a strange anxiety rising in his chest.
He looked serious. “Don’t say things like that, Milly. Dylan has never been attracted to women. He’s only nice to Amelia because of me.”
Milly’s eyes were full of anger. She couldn’t stand that Dylan was even a little friendly to Amelia. She wanted everything Amelia had for herself.
“I was just saying,” she replied.
Milly’s eyes were full of greed as she watched Dylan walk away. She could already see him worshiping her. When that day came, she’d toss him aside, toy with him, and make him suffer for her sake. Just imagining it thrilled her.
Amelia, on the other hand, was in the car, spraying disinfectant on her knee to clean the wound.
From here, it would take approximately two hours to reach Greenvale. She didn’t have time for the cut to heal.
Nemi gave her a bottle of water and spoke in a worried voice. “Don’t be mad, Amelia. When I get back to work, if I hear anyone say bad things about you, I’ll correct them.”
Amelia sprayed her wound twice and chuckled. “It doesn’t matter. People can say whatever they want. It’s their mouths, not mine.”
Nemi watched her calm expression for a long moment before speaking again. “My friend works in your department. None of them like you, but you and Nolan used to be close, at least a few years ago. Then, for some reason, he started liking Milly instead.”
A few years ago?
That must have been before Milly returned to the Summers family. Everything changed when Milly came back.
“Amelia, you and Nolan are engaged. He didn’t always hate you. How did things get this
? Are you not
going to look back? A lot of people in your department have told me that you’d do anything, even go through hard times, to get Nolan back.”
