Chapter 170
Sharon stayed seated and looked up toward him. She wondered, ‘Why is he coming over now?”
Nicholas turned and walked to her side, then took a thermos from the back cabinet and set it on the table beside her.
“What’s this?” she asked.
“Hot chocolate.” Nicholas quickly grabbed a prepared cup and poured her some. “Your dorm doesn’t have a water dispenser.” So he’d prepared a drink for her.
Sharon smiled, “Thanks.” This time she took it without hesitation and took a sip. The warmth was soothing.
“Not mad anymore?” Nicholas squatted in front of her and lowered his voice.
Before her period, they’d had a small argument. Though unspoken, he could sense Sharon’s mood change.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to stand up for her, but the academy had rules. He’d always followed them, but this time, it was her he was up against. Sharon held the steaming cup and nudged the ground with her toes. “When was I ever mad?” Women never admit to being angry or jealous.
“Good if you’re not.” Nicholas squeezed her hand. “Rest for now. Wait for me to have lunch together.”
“Okay.” Sharon nodded, unusually compliant.
Nicholas held back, then couldn’t resist reaching out to ruffle her hair, his large hand gentle
if
afraid she might break.
Their unselfconscious interaction stunned the onlookers. They thought, ‘Is that really the legendary strict and unbending Nicholas?‘ He was so gentle just now, even bringing hot chocolate.
When Nicholas had arrived that morning, he’d been carrying something. Everyone had teased him for already drinking hot water at his age. No one expected it wasn’t for him–it was for Sharon.
After yesterday’s blood donation incident, who didn’t know Sharon was on her period? But Nicholas‘ obvious attentiveness to her was impossible to miss.
Nicholas, despite his height, squatted in front of Sharon like a loyal guard dog. His tone was impossibly gentle as if she were a dandelion that might float away with the slightest breath of wind.
And then there was the head rub. It was too much to handle!
There they were, supposed to be resting, but instead stuck watching this couple’s public display of affection in the rest area. ‘Is there no peace?‘ they thought.
Sharon held her cup, sipping slowly as she eyed Nicholas across the field. His profile was chiseled, his gaze intense. Yep, men definitely looked different when they were in work mode.
He’d even gone out of his way to prepare hot chocolate for her. She hadn’t even thought of bringing anything herself. Glancing at the thermos on the table, it was plain and basic–the kind you’d grab at any grocery store. Probably a last–minute buy.
Her phone buzzed. It was a message from her crew, encrypted. To anyone else, it’d look like a music update, but not to her. She decrypted it and opened the app.
Jannie: [Shari, I heard you’re on your period. I’m sending a thermos and chocolate. Consider it a care package.]
Sharon: [No need.]
Jannie: [Aww! I used to be your go–to! Don’t be stubborn.]

Chapter 170
Sharon paused, then typed: [Someone’s already taken care of it.]
Cameron: (Who? Some creep?]
Riley: [I bet it’s a guy.]
Sharon: [Yeah. My fiance.]
Jannie: [Ugh, why do guys keep trying to steal you from me? I used to be your hype girl. So not fair!]
Cameron: [Seriously, Shari? You’re throwing “fiancé” around like that? Did he really bag you that easy?]
Sharon hesitated. [More like I made the first move.]
Riley: [Duh. When has Shari ever cared about guys who chase her? She’s always the pursuer. Well, except with girls.]
Over the years, Sharon had charmed more girls than guys. Total heartbreaker. Now that she was stuck in the academy, fixated only on Nicholas, it was practically a public service. Think of it this way, Nicholas was doing the world a favor.
