But before she could implement this plan, Grace had stolen the documents from her purse, determined to humiliate me herself.
Catherine couldn’t stop het, so she decided to support her daughter’s attack.
The room fell silent as everyone waited for my response.
I looked at the faces surrounding me–some curious, some disgusted, others eagerly anticipating my downfall.
I took a deep breath and spoke clearly, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me.
“You’re right. Billy is not Henry’s biological child. He is mine alone.”
This statement caused quite a shock throughout the room.
Six years ago, I never intended to find that man again.
He had simply provided a sperm, nothing more.
Isabella could barely contain her excitement, wringing her hands nervously as triumph flashed in her eyes. She couldn’t hold back anymore.
“You shameless woman!” she shouted, her voice carrying across the stunned room. “If you have any dignity left, you should hide yourself in the gutter out of shame! I’ve never seen anyone as despicable as you!”
Her face flushed with vindictive pleasure. “If Billy isn’t Henry’s child, why did you make him call Henry ‘Daddy‘? You kept two people who love each other apart–what kind of evil plan were you executing?”
She needed to seize this opportunity to make Henry see my true nature.
Only then would he drive me away, leaving the position of Mrs. Harding vacant for her to claim.
While Isabella was thrilled that I had admitted Billy wasn’t Henry’s biological child, what concerned her more was Henry’s reaction.
Since my confession, he had remained completely expressionless, not uttering a single word. Catherine also seemed uncertain about what Henry was thinking.
Logic dictated that any man would explode with rage upon learning/he’d been raising another man’s child for years. Yet Henry maintained an eerie calm.
Grace jumped in again, emboldened by her mother’s support.
“Women from poor backgrounds are always so vulgar. She probably planned this from the beginning–taking care of my brother just to pin her bastard child on him!” She turned to Henry, her voice pleading. ‘Brother, punish this woman!”
The three women–Catherine, Grace, and Isabella–continued their verbal assault, all hoping to witness Henry unleash his fury on me.
When Henry’s eyes met mine, he finally saw the absolute determination in them.
In that moment, he realized I wasn’t just making idle threats–I truly wanted a divorce.
Six years ago, on that night, I genuinely hadn’t known who the man was, nor had I intended for Henry to permanently act as this surrogate father.
Today felt like the right time to clear everything up.
“Henry,” I said calmly, “I admit Billy isn’t your biological child. I want to thank you for taking care of us all these years. To show my gratitude, I’ll leave with nothing but what I brought into this marriage.”
I maintained steady eye contact with him. “Now, in front of all these witnesses, I hope you’ll act like a man, show some integrity, and sign our divorce papers.”

The onlookers who had stayed to watch the drama unfold were completely shocked. They all stared at me with open mouths, at a loss for words.
After several moments of stunned silence, the whispers began.
‘Is this for real? Billy isn’t Henry’s child? But they look so much alike!”
All eyes turned to Henry, waiting for his reaction.
When I had married him, I’d been completely honest: Billy wasn’t his biological child. I told him he didn’t have to love Billy, but I asked him not to hurt him. I promised that if Isabella ever returned, I would leave with Billy and let them be together. Henry had assumed I was bluffing–after all, the position of Mrs. Harding was coveted by countless women. Why would I give it up so easily?
Looking into my eyes now, seeing not a hint of reluctance or attachment, Henry finally understood: I had never cared about being Mrs. Harding. His face darkened instantly, his eyes blazing with rage that threatened to incinerate everything around him.
He stepped foward me and forcefully grabbed my chin, his fingers digging painfully into my skin.
“Let me make this perfectly clear,” he growled through clenched teeth, “This marriage will not end today! Only I can initiate a divorce! Do you understand?”
His grip tightened as he continued, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper: “In this world, I take what I want and discard what I don’t. Since when do you get to make these decisions? Who do you think you are?”
