Augustin’s POV

“You bring nothing but misfortune to her life! Kieran shouted, tears gathering in his eyes. She rejected me for my entire life, chose you over me!”

He slammed his fist down on the table, the wood cracking slightly under the impact. “You’ve had plenty of women! But the one woman who was destined for me, you had to take her too?”
“Kieran, Matthew’s voice cut through the tension. Augustin gave up his fated mate for Juno too.”
Kieran froze, his eyes darting between us. “What?”
“He rejected his fated mate to be with Juno,” Matthew repeated quietly. “When we first discussed Juno. I told you they’ve been in love from the beginning.
“You rejected your fated mate?” Kieran asked me, disbelief clear in his tone. “Who was she?”
I leaned back in my chair, studying him carefully. “Cassandra Hamilton. Patrick Hamilton’s niece. Your polo team captain.”
‘You…” Kieran seemed at a loss for words.
Ismiled thinly. “If you hadn’t missed the ball, I might have wondered if you brought her deliberately to cause problems between me and Juno.
“I didn’t know,” he said, slowly sinking back into his chair.
‘I believe you,” I said. “In fact, you inadvertently did me a favor. Having her there forced the issue into the open.”
Kieran shook his head, still processing this information. “I would have treated her right,” he said. “I may not be a King like you, but I would have loved her with everything I am.”
“I know,” I said, and meant it. Whatever else Kieran was, his feelings for Juno were genuine.
“I’ve waited my whole life for my fated mate,” Kieran continued, his voice breaking slightly. “I never loved anyone, never promised myself to anyone, because I was waiting for her. And then you took her from me.”
I lowered my head, sighing deeply. “It wasn’t possible, Kieran. Not just because of my feelings for her, but because…When you met her for the second time, she was already pregnant with my child.”
Matthew’s knuckles went white as he gripped the edge of the table. Kieran looked as though I’d physically struck him.
“Pregnant?” he whispered.
“That’s why,” Kieran mumbled, almost to himself. “That’s why it didn’t hurt as much as it should have. Why I felt empty and wanting but pain.”

“A child is a bond. It’s why a child represents the permanent bonding between two wolves. It made it easier for her to reject me,” Kieran realized. “Because she already had a bond with you.”
“Yes,” I confirmed. “Just as Juno became my second chance mate after I rejected Cassandra. We are fated, Kieran. Just not in the way you and she were
“You haven’t claimed her yet,” Kieran observed, his tone accusatory. “Why? If you love her so much, why haven’t you sealed your bond?

Chapter 235
“Because I don’t want to hide my love,” I answered honestly. “I like the romance of the Purplemoon ritual. I want to stand before rather, under t moon, and show them that I love Juno,”
Matthew rose suddenly, his chair scraping against the floor. He walked a few steps away, taking deep breaths. When he returned, his eyes were red chemite but his expression was more controlled.
After a long moment, Kieran turned from the window. “Why exactly did you call this meeting?”
I outlined everything that had happened, starting with the attack on Elton’s pack and ending with the recent petition against my rule. I left out certain names, still wary of sharing too much.
