In the Aitchen with the girls.
Come to my office. Now.
Without hesitation, i excused myself and hurried to Augustin’s office. When I entered, he looked deeply troubled, his eyes stormy with worry. He crossed the room in three long strides and pulled me into a desperate kiss, as if I were the air he needed to breathe.
I could feel his anxiety and need pulsing through his touch. Ifis lips moved to my neck, but this wasn’t just affection, there was something frantic in his
movements.
“I need you,” he whispered against my skin. “Right now.”
I didn’t need pleasantries or foreplay, I wanted him just as desperately, anytime, anywhere. “Take me,” I breathed.
He turned me toward the wall, his hand sliding under my dress and pulling down my underwear. He pinned my hands above my head against the wall and entered me in one smooth motion, starting with gentle thrusts that quickly became more insistent.
I could feel Fenris’s agitation through our connection, sensing that something was seriously wrong. “Harder,” I whispered. ‘Don’t hold back. I need to feel
you.
Augustin responded immediately, his movements becoming more forceful. Despite his troubled state, waves of pleasure washed over me. He turned me around and bent me over his desk, no longer gentle as he drove into me with powerful thrusts that hit exactly the right spot each time.
He maintained a steady rhythm until I came with an intensity that left me gasping, and moments later, he followed, his body shuddering against mine. Afterward, he withdrew gently and placed a tender kiss on my shoulder.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, turning to face him.
Tears filled his eyes as he whispered, ‘I don’t want war.”
We moved to the couch where Augustin sat with his head in his hands. I knelt in front of him, taking his hands in mine.
“Tell me what’s happening,” I urged. “You’re scaring me. Take a deep breath, love. Whatever it is, we’ll face it together.”
He looked
up,
his eyes
red–rimmed. “The council called. Half of Clifflands no longer accepts me
as
Alpha King, though they want to keep the council system.
My heart sank. “What does that mean exactly?
They’ve submitted a petition. I have two choices – force my rule through violence like my father would have done, or accept a hearing that I’ll likely lose. If
I choose violence, I become exactly what I’ve fought against. If I accept the hearing, I might lose everything my family has built.”
“Who’s behind this?” I asked, my mind already racing through possibilities.
‘I don’t know yet. Someone’s manipulating things from behind the scenes. We need to find the traitor before this gets out of control. This has Quentor’s fingerprints all over it, but I can’t prove anything.”
“How much time do we have?”
“Eight months until the hearing, but that’s not enough time to prepare properly. They’ve been planning this for threats.”
years while we’ve been focused on external
I squeezed his hands. “We need to study Clifflands law and constitution. There must be legal grounds to fight this petition. Some technicality or precedent
we can use.”
“The council has already accepted it. They’re moving forward regardless.”
Then we’ll find another way,” I insisted, “I’ll get Scarlett and Freya to help me speed–read everything. Scarlett has a background in pack law, and Freya 3 analytical mind will spot patterns we might miss. We can control this, Augustin. We’ve faced worse odds.”
*If they’re using the law against you, we’ll use it right back,” I said firmly. We’re not going down without a fight, and we’re certainly narrating Your father’s methods won’t work here, you’re right about that. But that doesn’t mean we’re powerless,
For the first time since I’d entered his office, Augustin’s expression showed a glimmer of hope. He pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly as if leath his anchor in a storm.
Together,” he whispered against my hair. “We’ll face this together.”
I nodded against his chest, my mind already formulating plans.
