Chapter 129
“It doesn’t matter,” Richard said firmly. “Shari has us by her side. She doesn’t need to work hard doing anything. We’ll handle everything for her.”
Wallace nodded in agreement. “She only needs to enjoy the prestige of being the family head without bearing any of the pressure or responsibilities that come with it.”
As their little sister, Sharon just needed to sit prettily in that position. They would take care of the rest.
Malcolm cleared his throat. “But she is the family head after all. Constantly spoiling her like this might hinder her growth. People will talk.”
“Anyone who wants to gossip can come find me, and I’ll explain it to them personally,” Richard replied, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Marvin jumped in. “Shari’s still a student. What responsibilities do you expect a student to handle?”
The eight brothers were completely biased in their favoritism. They were happy to spoil her this way. If anyone had a problem with that, they would have to deal with her brothers.
Sharon tilted her head and looked directly at Malcolm. “Is it you who has a problem with this, or someone else?”
Malcolm suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. ‘I almost forgot something really important. This girl isn’t ordinary. She might actually be the mastermind behind the Hunter Forum,‘ he thought.
Malcolm had specifically looked into Sharon’s life in the countryside. She’d dropped out of school early and frequently disappeared as a “backpacker” for stretches of time. Everything else seemed normal–or rather, he couldn’t find anything else suspicious.
But when Malcolm considered how confident she’d been acting lately, he was pretty sure she hadn’t just been backpacking during those disappearances.
After all, Sharon had received an invitation to Oriston Academy at just ten years old. If she hadn’t shown unusual abilities, the academy wouldn’t have noticed her.
‘This girl is hiding her true nature. She’s definitely not the naive sweetheart her brothers think she is,‘ Malcolm thought.
Malcolm felt like he might be sticking his nose where it didn’t belong. He handed Sharon the token that symbolized leadership of the Vance family. “From today forward, you’re the head of the Vance family. I hope you’ll lead them back to power and restore their former glory.”
“Sure, I understand,” Sharon replied calmly as if it was nothing major. She showed no nervousness or hesitation whatsoever.
Even with all his experience reading people, Malcolm couldn’t figure Sharon out.
‘Anyway, the Baxter family is currently the top family now. When Sharon decides to challenge them for the number one position, that’ll be quite a show to watch,‘ Malcolm thought.
He couldn’t help but picture the scene with petty delight. ‘Why does that make me so happy?‘ he thought.
After finishing up the formalities, Malcolm left the Vance Mansion. Before getting into his car, he glanced back one last time. ‘This place will probably go through massive changes in the near future,‘ he thought. It was just a gut feeling he had.
Sharon held the pendant in her hand as she looked up at her eight brothers. “We’re back home again.”
Twenty years ago, the brothers had been driven out when they were young and powerless. They’d had no choice but to send Sharon away too.
Now, 20 years later, they had returned stronger than ever, becoming the talk of the town as they reclaimed their position as heads of the family.
Richard looked pleased. “It’s all thanks to Shari.”
Chapter 129
They were well aware that Sharon had spent 100 million coins to buy back their family’s leadership position.
In just 20 years, Sharon had moved even faster than her brothers.
Sharon’s gaze lingered for a moment. “We’re family after all, aren’t we?”
“Yes, we are,” Richard smiled warmly.
Sharon dangled the pendant before placing it in Richard’s hand. “From now on, we’ll all live here. Let’s keep our parents‘ rooms as they were.”
“Shari, do you want to live here?” Marvin suddenly asked, his usual carefree expression gone. “What’s wrong with staying at our old place?”
The air suddenly grew still.
Sharon hadn’t expected Marvin to care about this. “You don’t like this place, Marvin?” she asked slowly. She’d thought her brothers would be happy about reclaiming the mansion.
After all, Roxanne had kicked all nine siblings out of here years ago. Getting back to this place was supposed to be their revenge.
“I hate it here,” Marvin said cryptically. He glanced around the hall. “Just thinking about how the people from the Vance family touched all this stuff makes my skin crawl.”
“Marvin!” Richard cut him off before he could continue. It was rare for Sharon to speak up like this.
Truth be told, Richard didn’t care where they lived, but he didn’t have fond feelings for this place either. Besides their parents, this mansion hadn’t left them with many good memories.
“That’s fine,” Sharon said. “Let’s just tear it down then.” Her tone was completely casual, as if she were talking about buying some groceries. If Marvin didn’t like it, she didn’t either.
Joan gasped, “But this is the centuries–old Vance Mansion!”
‘Ms. Vance just casually suggests demolishing it. She’s such a badass,‘ Joan thought.
“And after we tear it down?” Wallace asked calmly.
‘Should we rebuild it?‘ Wallace thought.
“Let’s just leave it abandoned,” Sharon said after thinking for a moment.
Since it was an eyesore anyway, there was no point in keeping it. ‘So what if is a hundred–year–old mansion? It’s nothing compared to my brothers‘ feelings?‘ Malcolm thought.
Wallace found her decision completely ridiculous, but it felt oddly satisfying.
“Aww, see? Shari loves me the most,” Marvin cooed dramatically. And just like that, the matter was happily settled.
As Joan left, she couldn’t help thinking that if Roxanne ever woke up and found out about this, she might literally die of anger on the spot. ‘Ms. Vance is truly something else,‘ Joan thought.
News of this spread quickly through all the prominent families. Everyone thought the Vance brothers‘ return was highly inappropriate. After all, a centuries–old mansion was symbolic.
Even Malcolm couldn’t resist coming over to ask what was going on.
Sharon replied coolly, “The house has structural issues. It’s not safe to live in.”
Malcolm was completely baffled. ‘This is obviously revenge! She just came up with such a pathetic excuse. How outrageous!‘ he thought.
