Clarine’s POV
I had intended to expose Tyler’s true colors at the press conference there, but I caught sight of a
familiar figure.
That woman looked so different from how I remembered her that I almost didn’t recognize her.
When our eyes met, she quickly looked away and slipped out as if afraid Tyler would notice.
It was so quick I wondered if I’d imagined it.
After the press conference, maybe thinking I’d finally settled down and stopped trying to run, Tyler took me out in public.
He brought me to the boutique that used to design custom dresses for Clara and spent a fortune ordering several gowns for me.
Inside the fitting room, luxurious dresses were displayed wall to wall and the floor was littered with expensive jewelry. I was expected to try everything on.
Expressionless, I let the maids dress me and try on accessories like a lifeless doll whose only purpose was to please him.
Tyler asked for my opinion in the middle, but I just kept silent.
I didn’t want to give him an expression, let alone say another word to him.
He seemed to be used to this mode of getting along and didn’t make it difficult for me. He just ordered people to pack up everything.
As we left the store, the månager’s smile practically split her face.
Tyler’s spending spree had single–handedly secured her entire quarter’s sales target.
The manager walked me out of the store, smiling as she said, “Miss Robinson, Mr. Jacobson truly loves you.”
“You’re so lucky to have a husband like him; it’s truly enviable.”
“You’ve got it wrong. My current husband is Hans Schneider. Tyler and I ended a long time ago.”
Upon hearing my words, the manager’s expression changed and she froze momentarily.
I didn’t look at her again, turning to leave. Tyler was standing by his Maybach, not far away. He waited for me to get in.
The commercial street was bustling, with people flowing like water all around. If I were to escape now, disappearing into the crowd, I might just succeed.
Should I run? The thought flashed for only a second before I dismissed it.
Tyler had taken entirely over the Robinsons. My father was under house arrest. I had no one to rely on.
As for Hans … I touched the tracker he had given me earlier in my pocket, but I couldn’t bring myself to press it.
I didn’t want to drag Hans into this mess.
Suddenly, in the crowd, I saw another familiar face. She glanced at me and pointed in a

direction.
After a moment’s thought, I decided to go and see her.
“Wait here for a moment, I need to use the restroom.”
Tyler nodded, instructing his bodyguards to follow me.
However, the bodyguards were all men, so they could only wait outside the women’s restroom.
Clara was already waiting for me inside.
“Sister, you actually came? Aren’t you afraid of what I might do to you?”
I gave her a faint look. “In your current state, what could you possibly do to me? Speak. You came to see me for a reason.”
“I can help you bring down Tyler Jacobson. Then you can regain your freedom.”
Clara handed me a USB drive. “All the evidence of what he’s done recently is in here.”
I knew her too well. She wouldn’t help me unconditionally.
“Tell me, what are your conditions?”
“It’s so much easier dealing with smart people like you, Clarine. After it’s done, give me a new identity and a sum of money.”
After thinking it over, I nodded in agreement. “Alright, I promise you.”
“Glad to work with you.”
