Augustin’s POV
Bryloch raised an eyebrow. ‘Ob? That’s the first real lead we’ve had in weeks.”
“The man slipped up and used his personal ID instead of the code for the payment. That exposed his identity.”
Bryloch’s expression turned skeptical. That seems too easy. Could be a diversion. These people haven’t made mistakes before, why start now?
“I thought the same,” I admitted. “But I contacted Oscar in Verdantia to look into this man. I wasn’t going to move on it without verification.
“And?” Adryx leaned forward, interested. “What did he find?”
His name is Fox Larson. He exists, and his behavior has been suspicious. I wanted to arrest him immediately, but Juno suggested we track him fire to see f he leads us to his accomplices or even to some of Eliza’s organization members.”
“What did Oscar find out?” Bryloch asked, setting his fork down. “Is he watching him now?”
“He spotted the man last night. It will take time, but I’m hopeful he’ll lead us to our mole or to members of Eliza’s organization. Oscar is good at what be does–if there’s something to find, he’ll find it.”
Adryx nodded thoughtfully. “Eliza is probably why we haven’t been able to catch anyone. She’s been tipping them off. Every time we got close, she probably warned them.”
“Exactly,” Bryloch agreed. “It was smart to keep her and Mira’s arrests quiet. For once, we’re a step ahead of them instead of playing catch–up.
I leaned back in my chair. “Juno thinks we can use Eliza to our advantage.”
Both men looked at me with interest.
“She committed treason, and the punishment for that is death,” I explained. “But if she cooperates, her sentence could be reduced. It’s a powerful incentive.
“If Eliza agrees to help us, we’ll publicly announce Mira’s arrest and prosecution. That will force the organization to contact Eliza directly.”
“Juno heard that Eliza told organization members that security would be lighter during the competition. We can use that to set a trap. Let them think they have an opening, then close the net when they make their move.”
A moment of silence fell over the table as they considered the plan.
“That’s actually brilliant,” Bryloch finally said. “Eliza is selfish enough that she won’t refuse. She’ll do anything to save her own skin. I’ve always thought she was more motivated by personal gain than ideology.”
He smirked. “I doubt she truly believes in whatever cause this organization is fighting for. She’s just bitter because you wouldn’t fuck her. Women scorned can be dangerous.”
The three of us laughed, though I felt a twinge of regret. I had always treated Eliza like a sister, been kind to her. I never imagined she would betray me like
this.
“Speaking of the competition,” I said, changing the subject, “we have a small issue.”
“What now?” Adryx asked, frowning. “Haven’t we had enough problems already?”
“The elders are stirring trouble again. Azalea has decided to invite the Alphas from Forestvale.
Adryx slammed his palm on the table, making the dishes rattle. “When will these people stop interfering in our lives?” he dema anger. “Azalea is just doing this because we rejected her daughter. She’s trying to ruin our lives! Does she think I’ll suddenly chan

Bryloch placed a calming hand on Adryx’s shoulder. “Easy, brother. Remember that Freya loves you and hates her ex. Don’t let this get to you. She chose you, that’s what matters.”
