Sharon couldn’t help but admire Nicholas. Good looks really were an advantage.
‘Nicholas would probably look great in vintage clothes too, Sharon thought. She had always been a sucker for handsome faces, and Nicholas perfectly
matched her taste.
Nicholas himself remained completely unfazed. He had walked in looking dashingly handsome, stealing everyone’s attention without even noticing it.
His gaze fell on Karen, whose eyes immediately brightened. “Nicholas! I was just talking with Shari about the Baxter family removing their bounty. We should prevent this situation from becoming embarrassing for everyone,”
Nicholas stared at her blankly. “Are you deaf?”
Karen froze. ‘What did he mean?‘ she thought.
“What Nick means is that the Baxter family didn’t post the bounty,” Brent cut in to explain. “Sharon already told you she was the one who had the bounty posted. Why don’t you believe her? You’re either dense or you just can’t understand simple words.”
Karen’s act of playing dumb was genuinely sickening.
They had been so ruthless at the beginning, but now that they realized Sharon had become powerful, they couldn’t accept the reality and kept lying to
themselves.
‘Is it really that hard to just deal with reality?‘ Brent wondered.
Karen’s expression grew complicated. “That’s impossible. It was clearly the Baxter family.” She just couldn’t admit that Sharon had that much influence.
Nolan chimed in eagerly, “I also think the Baxter family is behind this. They’re just trying to make Sharon look good, to save face for her. Man, your family really goes to extremes.
“Nicholas, I know Sharon is technically your fiancée, but your family shouldn’t treat the Vance family this way.”
Karen relaxed visibly. ‘Nolan’s right,‘ she thought. The Baxter family must be saying all this just to protect Sharon.
There was no way Sharon could have that kind of ability. Karen simply didn’t buy it. ‘She’s just a country girl,‘ she thought.
Nicholas kept his face blank as he completely ignored Karen. He walked to the other side of the room, not wanting to waste time talking to someone so
dense.
Nicholas stopped in front of Sharon, his tone softening. “Grandpa asked me to pass along a message to you.”
“What did he say?” Sharon asked.
“He said not to worry. The Baxter family will always stand by your side.”
‘And that includes me,‘ Nicholas thought.
A smile flickered in Sharon’s eyes as she replied softly, “Please thank Mr. Edward Baxter for me. I’ll visit him soon.”
“Grandpa would be delighted. The Baxter family welcomes you anytime,” Nicholas said warmly.
They exchanged gentle smiles, creating a picture of perfect harmony. But some people didn’t see it that way at all.
Richard cleared his throat. “Shari, it’s getting/late. We should get going.”
“Yeah, let’s go. Nothing interesting to see here anyway,” Marvin added.

Her brothers walked over and positioned themselves between Sharon and Nicholas, effectively breaking their eye contact
Marvin even clapped his hand on Nicholas‘ shoulder. “Hey kid, come over here. We need to talk about something”
The brothers had decided to push Nicholas into playing the bad guy regarding the House of Obsidian situation.
As Sharon’s brothers, they couldn’t be the villains themselves, so they’d dump the responsibility on Nicholas. The decision had been made just like that
Nicholas had no idea what he was about to face, but it definitely wouldn’t be anything good.
“Nick?” Brent called out, holding his breath as he witnessed the scene. This had trouble written all over it.
Nicholas shook his head slightly. This was something he needed to handle alone. No one else could help him.
Nearby, Karen watched with concern. “They won’t hurt Nicholas, will they?”
After seeing that moment between Nicholas and Sharon earlier, Karen had been so jealous she’d nearly broken her nails. ‘Why is he so nice to Sharon, that country girl? I’m the real Vance family princess,’ she thought.
Nolan scoffed, “Who knows? They’re the Vance family crazies, after all.”
Marvin’s nickname wasn’t “Crazy” for nothing.
“Maybe we should go over there and see what’s happening,” Karen said. “We could help Nicholas if he needs it.”
Karen wanted Nicholas to realize that the eight Vance brothers didn’t respect his status as the Baxter family heir at all, and that he and Sharon weren’t a good match.
Nolan hesitated, not really wanting to go. He was actually pretty happy Nicholas got beat up. That guy always strutted around school like he owned the place.
“Instead of worrying about other people, maybe we should focus on the Vance family and what’s happening today,” Nolan said.
A smug look flashed in Karen’s eyes. “As long as we’re not the ones in trouble, I don’t really care.”
Brent just shook his head. ‘Some people really need to learn their lesson,‘ he thought.
Sharon walked into the grand hall with her brothers and immediately spotted Roxanne sitting there with her typical holier–than–thou attitude.
With her sleek hair and beautiful pearls, Roxanne still looked like a woman of privilege despite the wrinkles that had formed on her face. Those beautiful eyes, though less bright now with age, had taken on a somewhat gloomy quality.
If one only looked at her appearance, one’d never guess how bitter and harsh Roxanne actually was..
This was Sharon’s first time really studying Roxanne. She suddenly realized they had very similar eye shapes. Genetics really were powerful. ‘When I get old, I definitely won’t become an unlikable person like Mrs. Vance,‘ she thought.
The Pierce family had arrived as well. Roxanne let out a cold snort. “Where’s that Baxter boy? I bet his family is too embarrassed to show their faces at this meeting.”

Richard sat in his chair with a cold expression. “Say what you need to say directly. Don’t waste everyone’s time.”

something this twisted. Can you believe it? A Vance trying to put a hit on their own grandmother,” Johnson said coldly.
“Say that one more time, Johnson, I swear. Stop spewing these damn lies,” Richard snapped.
Sharon placed a restraining hand on Marvin’s arm and spoke calmly, “I never wanted Mrs. Vance dead. I just wanted to teach her a lesson and make her apologize.”
Sharon spoke with a cool composure, glancing around the hall. She couldn’t shake the feeling that other people were present but hiding.
“Sharon, you know exactly what kind of desperate criminals would respond to a bounty of 1000 Hunter Coins. If that’s not trying to kill your grandmother, what is it?” Nolan snorted.
Karen chimed in, “Shari, I never thought you could be so vicious.”
“Vicious? You haven’t seen anything yet,” Sharon replied, her eyes growing cold.
