Chapter 172
“I had no choice,” she whispeed finally, her voice breaking. “Helena and your father… they were conspiring against me. I felt powerless. After everything I’d endured, everything I’d sacrificed, he was going to take away the one thing I had left- my family’s legacy.”
My knees gave out, and I sank to the floor, tears streaming down my face as the truth hit me with full force. Everything my mother had told me was a lie. My hatred for Kieran had been manipulated. I had been her puppet all along,
“Your father didn’t just destroy my family,” she continued, “He denied me my family’s seat, all to elevate his fated mate. He wanted to erase every trace of the Montalvo line from power. I couldn’t let that happen.”
She explained how after Charlotte’s death, things had calmed down. Nathanael maintained his harem and mistresses, but at least he wasn’t trying to divorce her anymore.
“I wasn’t completely happy, but I was content,” she said. “Especially seeing you and your brother grow into fine young men. I thought we had reached an understanding, your father and I.1
She revealed it was Helena who had tipped her off about Nathanael’s plan to give the council seat to his illegitimate son. “That news enraged me,” she admitted, her voice trembling with fury. “It was the final betrayal in a long line of
humiliations.”
later discovered Helena was actually his mistress,” she continued, “She told me this hoping to end my marriage so she could take my place. She wanted to be Luna Queen, to have the power I possessed.”
She described a heated argument with Nathanael, where he explicitly threatened to “deal with her if she didn’t comply. “He got right in my face and said I should be grateful he kept me around at all. That I was lucky to still be his Luna.” Her
eyes flashed with remembered indignation.
“When he threatened to make Chris instead of you,” she said, “I made the most desperate decision of my life. I couldn’t let
him destroy your future, Augustin. You were meant to be Alpha King.”
She confessed to secretly bribing Sebastian’s father and Helena to overturn Nathanael’s decision. “I didn’t know Helena
was sleeping with him at the time,” she insisted, slamming her hand on the table. “She agreed to help on the condition that the Montalvo seat remain vacant, giving the Holbrooke family control over the council.”
“I did it for you, Augustin,” she pleaded, tears falling wildly. “If I hadn’t, you wouldn’t be King now. You would be nothing. Is that what you wanted?” Her voice cracked on the last word.
She described how Nathanael threatened to punish her, insisting Chris would be King because he was both an Alpha and his son. “He laughed in my face and said you were weak, that you didn’t have what it took to be Alpha King. Can you imagine how that felt?” Her breath caught. “To hear him dismiss my son that way?”
“To end your father’s tyranny,” she admitted, “I sent an anonymous letter to the Fireland Alpha, claiming Nathanael was
coming to his territory to start a war.”
“I was protecting your right to inheritance, Augustin,” she insisted, desperation evident in issued the decree. It was only a matter of time before he made it official.”

“He was heartless,” she continued, “He wanted to elevate Charlotte’s son above you. He said Chris had more of his spirit, more of his strength.”
“Despite loving him, I couldn’t bear his behavior anymore,” she said, “Years of humiliation were enough. I had to protect
