Chapter 25 Confrontation and New Beginnings
The group chat members started sending their drinks orders one after another and Amelia placed them through a delivery app
Just as she finished the order, Nolan walked out of his office. When he passed by Amelia, he paused for a few
seconds
Arnelia kept her head down, organizing her work, completely uninterested in engaging with him.
Nolan leaned closer. Don’t you have something to say? I’m free tonight. How about dinner with me?”
Since Amelia hadn’t shown up at the Summers residence last night, he was in a decent mood. He figured he’d kill some time with her since his evening was free.
Her expression darkened instantly. “I wasn’t feeling well yesterday. We can reschedule another time”
Nolan sneered. “Don’t you think your excuse is a bit pathetic? What kind of illness has you bedridden, yet lively enough to show up at Nocturne later that night? Your family called you countless times, and you didn’t pick up
It was obvious. She wasn’t too sick, she simply didn’t want to break off the engagement with him. Amelia couldn’t be bothered to explain further and stayed silent.
Nolan knocked on her desk, his tone arrogant. I’m asking you a question. Are we going out tonight or not?
“Get lost.”
“Keep pretending. You’ve gotten pretty good at this.”
If she could go back in time, Amelia thought, she would have dragged her sick body to the Summers residence last night, even if she had to crawl.
She took a deep breath and completely ignored him.
Nolan felt smug. Although he had known Amelia for years, Milly’s appearance five years ago had stirred a sense of pity in everyone, like a fragile porcelain doll.
Unconsciously, everyone sided with Milly. It had become second nature by now.
Everyone assumed Amelia was just throwing a tantrum. Sooner or later, she would return.
The drinks she ordered soon arrived, and everyone in the office thanked Sophia, completely forgetting that it was Amelia who had placed the order
Amelia didn’t care to correct them. She focused on diligently completing the documents in front of her,
She had arranged to meet a real estate agent in the afternoon. After unexpectedly acquiring 4 million dollars last night, there was no reason to keep living in her current place.
When the workday ended, she got up to leave. At that moment, Sophia approached her with a stack of documents. “These need to be organized. I’ll need them in an hour.”
Amelia frowned and flipped through a few pages. “Ms. Carter, you gave me these documents on my fi day. I’ve already organized all the key points.”

Sophia’s expression darkened. On the first day, she hadn’t expected Amelia to organise the materials so quickly.
When she saw the completed work, she couldn’t believe it. It had to be Nolan who helped her. Amelia couldn’t possibly have that level of skill.
So she had intentionally brought over a new stack of documents, most of which overlapped with the previous ones.
She hadn’t expected Amelia to recognize them after flipping through just a few pages.
Amelia gave her a small smile and said, “Or does Ms. Carter didn’t understand something?”
Sophia’s expression grew even darker. “What do you mean by that?”
“I’m just stating the facts. The documents I organized are already clear and concise. If there’s something you don’t understand, you’re welcome to point it out specifically.”
Sophia prided herself on being a strong, independent woman in the workplace. She couldn’t handle this kind of humiliation.
She took a deep breath and sneered. “You only got that information because you begged a man for help. What’s there to be proud of, Amelia?
“Everything you have now is because of your privileged background. If you were from an ordinary family like mine, you’d probably be out selling yourself by now.”
Amelia clapped, her expression calm. “That’s why Ms. Carter is so admirable. You’re the true independent woman of the modern era. We should all learn from you. Anything else?”
“You!” Sophia’s face flushed with anger, she couldn’t think of a retort. “Unlike you, a woman who only knows how to chase men, I’ve earned everything I have on my own.”
Amelia glanced at her watch, her patience wearing thin. “I’m not interested in your life story. If this isn’t work related, I’ll be leaving now.”
“Amelia!” Sophia was so angry her chest was heaving, but Amelia had already stepped into the elevator.
She hadn’t planned to burn bridges so quickly, but Sophia had built her so–called independent persona by belittling other women.
Claiming to be a modern independent woman while tearing down other women. Where was the independence in that? She was just a more manipulative bitch.
Amelia arrived at the meeting spot with the realm estate agent, who greeted her warmly.
“Ms. Summers, this is the best property in the area. The security here is excellent. No one can enter without an owner’s permission or accompaniment.”
The property was indeed impressive. Located near Hale Corporation, it was a quiet retreat in a bustling
arca
But the price far exceeded her budget. “Forget it. This place is too expensive for me.”
