“Really? He locked you up?!” Liza exclaimed as she munched on her chips.
I gave her a shy smile, then glanced at Erik, a few meters away, typing on his phone. He didn’t let me meet Liza elsewhere, said I didn’t know the area and didn’t trust her. So I invited her here. Now he’s quietly doing a background check from a distance.
I couldn’t blame him. He’s only protecting me, and this is his house. If Liza was a threat, it could drag him into m
mess.
“Yes,” I admitted. “He doesn’t want to divorce me, actually. But the last thread of my patience snapped when he brought his mistress home.”
Liza rolled her eyes dramatically, took a long sip from her drink, and didn’t waste time. *fore giving her opinion.
Your husband’s an idiot. So what if you can’t give him a child? When he married you, did he only see you as someone to breed with and not a wife he’s supposed to love and protect no matter what?”
She clicked her tongue in irritation.
“My ex–husband was the same. That’s why I filed for divorce. I didn’t get a single cent from him. Maybe your case would be similar, especially since you said his family has strong ties in government.”
I shrugged. Did I even care about Darius‘ wealth?
I won’t lie. I was poor and I was thrilled when I found out he was an alpha set to inherit an empire. I came from nothing. My parents died of illness because we couldn’t afford
treatment.
So of course I thought my life would get better with him. He showered me with gifts, filled our table with more than enough food, and gave me the peace of waking up late in the morning to a warm breakfast, a safe home, and a carefree life.
Yes, I loved the idea of being his wife. Who wouldn’t? I gave up my job, even my hobbies, thinking it was worth the sacrifice. Because Darius… he was worth it back then.
When I got pregnant, I had no worries about finances. Everything I needed was within reach. I thought I had it all. love, security, a future.
But it all started to fall apart after the accident.
I lost our first child. And although he didn’t say it directly, he blamed me. He said I was too stubborn with my cravings. That stress was my fault. Then came the nights he didn’t come home, claiming it was for work. Still, I tried. I tried everything just to get pregnant again, even though he rarely touched me anymore.
I wanted to give him another child. I wanted to redeem myself. But in the end, he already started a new life with Sasha. And he had the audacity to say it was for me.
At first, I believed his gaslighting. But I couldn’t continue living with a man who shared his life, his body with someone else. A man who would never be mine entirely again.

“I don’t care about his wealth,” I told Liza firmly. “I can work for myself.”
“Oh?” she raised her brows. “You already applied for something? That was fast.”
I nodded and smiled. Then I gave a small signal to Erik, who noticed and looked up. Liza glanced at him, slightly nervous.
“He helped me,” I said softly.
“Who is he again?” she mouthed, trying not to be heard.
Unfortunately, lycans have sharp senses, sight, hearing, smell, far beyond ours.
“I’m the CEO of Hydgo’s Enterprise,” Erik said flatly.
Liza’s eyes widened in surprise. I blinked, confused by her reaction.

turk approached with a calm smile and sat beside me. He placed his tablet on the table in front of us, showing a message from Desmond’s sister, the owner of Heart Publishing. She wanted to set up a meeting with me to discuss a potential project.
I gave Erik a small nod, signaling him to reply and confirm.
“I’m thrilled to meet you, our CEO,” Liza said dreamily, almost in a daze.
I chuckled at her. A few seconds passed before her eyes lit up again and she pointed at the space between Erik and me.
“You sure you two are just friends?” she suddenly blurted.
I sat up straight, caught off guard.
“Of course, Liza! Why would you ask that?”
I gave Erik a tight–lipped smile. “Sorry. She’s obsessed with stories, especially romance. dramas.”
Liza didn’t seem offended. She just laughed and gave me a playful nudge.
“I have an idea,” she said. “Why don’t you write your own story, Rosella? About your marriage and how it fell apart. Then let your character find love again. That’s what’s trending right now, stories about women reclaiming their lives after heartbreak. People love that stuff.”
Her words made me pause. Write my own story? That would mean going all the way back. Back to the very first time I met Darius. How I fell for him. How he broke me after making
promises he never kept.
Could I really do that?
I wasn’t sure if I’d follow Liza’s idea. But when I finally met with Heart Publishing’s manager, I was pressured to submit a story idea.
And the only thing that came to mind… was my own life.
I sighed as I opened my laptop and typed the title:
