Chapter 9
“I know you feel bad for her,” she clutched his sleeve, her voice low and trembling.
“But my dad was badly hurt. If she doesn’t face any consequences… she’ll just keep hurting us.”
She bit her lip, tears falling again.
“Just a few days. Rhett… I know I’m just a fling. You love your wife, not me… If you can’t do this, then… let’s end things.”
He was silent for a few seconds. Then pulled her into his arms.
“No. You’re not leaving. I’ll do what you say.”
And just like that, I was sent to a detention center.
Rhett didn’t even look back at me when he left.
Faye, though–she waited until he disappeared down the hallway, then turned and shot me a meaningful smile.
She leaned in and whispered something to the guard… slipping him a thick envelope of cash.
The next three days were the longest nightmare of my life.
I was shoved, insulted, and even tripped on purpose–my knees split open and bled.
No one treated my wounds.
No one gave me clean water.
Curled in the corner, I thought about the message on that little piece of paper.
I clenched my teeth and counted the hours.
Three days.
Just three days, and I’d be free.

Chapter 9
On the evening of the third day, the cell door finally creaked open.
Rhett stood there, backlit by the light outside. I couldn’t see his face.
Not until he stepped closer-
And then I saw the shock in his eyes.
Maybe, just maybe, he was finally realizing what I’d been through.
My clothes were so filthy they were unrecognizable.
Bruises and scrapes covered my arms and knees.
There was dried blood at the corner of my lips.
Faye slipped her arm through his, her voice sickeningly sweet.
Vivian probably hurt herself on purpose… just to get pity. I mean, it’s only been a few days–how
bad could it be?”
Rhett looked at me for a long second.
Then his face turned cold again.
Vivian, is this ever going to stop?”
I pulled a corner of my mouth into a smile. Didn’t even bother answering.
What was the point?
He never believed me. Only her.
Back at the villa, for once, he didn’t leave immediately.
He sat on the couch, speaking like he was planning his week.
‘From now on, I’ll spend Mondays and Tuesdays with you. The rest of the week is for Faye.”
I stood at the stairs, silent.
“It’s Wednesday,” he said, picking up his coat. “Time for me to be with her. Don’t bother me the next

few days.”
He reached the door, then paused.
“I’ll be back next Monday.”
I looked at him, voice eerily calm.
“Okay. Goodbye.”
How laughable.
He really thought I’d be here when he got back?
Rhett froze for a moment.
Surprised, maybe, by my tone.
But he said nothing more, and shut the door behind him.
The moment it closed, my phone buzzed.
[Miss Vivian, your identity cancellation process is now complete.]
I stared at the message.
My chest tightened.
My heart pounded.
I was free.
I grabbed the bag I’d packed days ago.
And walked out without looking back.
I made it to the airport quickly.
And when I saw the person waiting for me there-
I felt my nose sting, eyes blur.
