Chapter 13
His assistant, woken in the middle of the night, rubbed the sleep from her voice.
“Yes, sir. I’ll start the investigation right away.”
Even after the call ended, Rhett couldn’t calm down.
He stood in the middle of the empty villa, the silence screaming around him.
The emptiness pressed into his chest like a fist.
It hurt-
Like something had been ripped straight out of his heart.
Lying in bed, the side where Vivian used to sleep was cold.
He wasn’t used to it.
Even though her things were gone, he still saw her everywhere.
In the mirror.
At her old vanity.
By the balcony where she used to make him close the curtains at night because the wind moving the
fabric scared her.
Back then, she’d curl up in his arms until she fell asleep.
But now-
Gone. All of it.
Their days had turned into jealousy, arguments, silence.
They slept in the same bed like strangers.
She practically clung to the wall, refusing to touch him.

How did it come to this?
Rhett stared at the ceiling.
He was… starting to regret it.
If only he hadn’t gone looking for excitement.
If only he hadn’t brought other women into their lives.
But every man in his circle lived this way.
One woman at home, more on the side–some with even more than he ever had.
Faye had always seemed so understanding. Why couldn’t Vivian accept it?
Rhett was restless. No sleep. No peace.
Something inside him whispered louder and louder:
Find her.
Now.
Or regret it forever.
Finally, his assistant returned with results.
He placed a thick file and a USB drive on his desk.
‘Mr. Sinclair, we’ve found her. Vivian… used the divorce agreement you signed at your wedding. Legally, the marriage is over.”
‘She and her parents… they’ve canceled all national IDs. The only thing we know is–they bought ickets to France. After that, there’s no trail.”
His voice grew quieter and quieter, looked like he wanted to disappear into the floor.
Rhett sat frozen.
The room went utterly still.

And then-
It hit him.
That agreement.
The one he signed years ago to reassure her parents.
He’d thought it was symbolic. Harmless. Something they’d never use.
He never imagined she’d use it to leave him forever.
His face was expressionless, but his knuckles turned white around the crumpled documents.
His eyes burned with fury–wild, scorching.
But still, he forced himself to read.
There, in black and white, was every step Vivian had taken to break free.
She had left nothing to chance.
She really meant to disappear from his world completely.
And Rhett-
couldn’t accept that.
“Search everywhere. Every border, every country. I don’t care what it costs. Bring her back!”
He slammed the file onto the desk, chest heaving.
His assistant hesitated. “Mr. Sinclair, if I may speak freely… you didn’t seem to love her anymore. Isn’t divorce what you wanted?”
“Vivian could never accept Faye. Not fully. Even if you forced her to stay, neither of you would be happy. And…”
He took a deep breath.
“Faye… isn’t as kind as you think.”

He handed him the USB.
“There’s evidence here–she deliberately framed Vivian. You should see it.”
