Chapter 11
Before he could decide, Faye suddenly covered his eyes from behind.
“Guess what surprise I prepared!” she whispered, her voice flirtatious, her lace nightgown brushing against his skin.
He flinched–and his finger accidentally tapped the screen.
“We’re sorry. The number you have dialed is no longer in service.”
The robotic voice echoed in the room..
They both froze.
“Anything later!” Rhett impatiently pushed Faye behind him and incredulously dialed Vivian’s number again.
“The number you have dialed is no longer in service.”
Again.
His mind went blank.
“What the hell…?” he whispered, unable to process what was happening.
Faye peeked at the name on the screen and feigned concern.
“Maybe she’s just busy… or mad at you. Maybe she canceled the number on purpose so you’d panic and go after her.”
“She’s still your wife, after all. Where could she possibly go? I bet she’s just waiting for you at home, sulking.”
Rhett lowered his gaze, deep in thought.
Faye had a point.
Maybe Vivian wanted him to chase her. That sounded like something she’d do.

He frowned, irritated.
“How long is she going to keep this up? Is this supposed to be fun for her?
She’s not like you, Faye. You’re obedient. Thoughtful.”
He clenched his jaw.
“If I ignore her, let’s see how long she can last.”
Rhett tried to smother the rising panic, pulling Faye back into his arms.
She looked seductive in her lace lingerie, but with an air of fake innocence that turned his stomach.
Her arms wrapped around his neck, lips brushing his, trying to deepen the kiss-
But Rhett was somewhere else entirely.
He gave her a hollow kiss–then pushed her away.
Standing up, he threw on his clothes.
Adjusted his collar in the mirror.
Then, coldly:“I’ve got work. Don’t wait up.”
And without a single glance back, he walked out the door.
Drove away into the night.
Faye punched a throw pillow, furious.
“Damn Vivian! She really knows how to play her cards. But I’m not giving him up–not to her!”
Meanwhile, Rhett… really didn’t go home.
He buried himself in work at the office for two days straight.
But his eyes kept drifting toward his phone.
It rang.

Faye.
Annoyed, he declined the call.
Then another.
And another.
The screen kept lighting up-
But never with her name.
Even when Monday arrived, not a single message. Not one call.
The unease inside him morphed into something wild.
A fire that burned hotter the longer she stayed silent.
Just then, his assistant burst in.
“Mr. Sinclair, someone’s here to see you. It’s-”
“Vivian?” Rhett cut her off, standing abruptly. “Tell her to wait. She made me wait this long–she can
wait, too.”
The assistant looked visibly awkward.
He bit his lip, voice quiet:
“Sir… it’s not Mrs. Sinclair. It’s today’s scheduled business partner.”
