Chapter 21 A Night of Betrayal and Resolve

The Summers family sat together, their joy evident as they began discussing potential wedding venues. Celia held Milly’s hand, her eyes red with emotion.
“You have finally overcome so much hardship. You two must cherish this happiness and guard it against anyone whe envies it like a lurking rat,” Celia said, her voice carrying a hint of warning.
Milly’s lips curled into a smile. “Mom, Nolan and I will be happy together.”
Alexander couldn’t help but add, “If Amelia had given up sooner, you two would’ve been together years ago. Why did it have to drag on for so long?”
Nolan’s gaze drifted toward the clock on the wall. The hands pointed to 7:00 pm, but the door remained silent. He turned to a servant nearby. “Has Amelia arrived yet?”
“No, Mr. Hale. She hasn’t been seen,” the servant replied.
Nolan let out a cold scoff, crossing his arms with a look of displeasure. “She’s not coming again, is she? I knew it. This is just one of her usual stings. She’s always like this.”
The cheerful atmosphere immediately soured, turning to indifference and then outright disgust.
Celia’s chest heaved with anger. She pulled out her phone and dialed Amelia’s number, but there was no
answer.
Her frustration boiled over, and she coughed violently. “I swear, I wish I’d never given birth to her!”
Milly quickly handed her a glass of warm water. “Mom, don’t get upset. Maybe Amelia is just stuck in traffic. Let’s wait another hour.”
Alexander rolled his eyes. “Milly, stop defending her. This has happened so many times. She’s always claiming the engagement is canceled, yet she comes up with excuse after excuse not to show up. I really thought she’d changed this time, but clearly, she can’t keep up the act.”
The group’s mood turned darker by the minute, though Milly seemed secretly pleased. The smile tugging at her lips was almost impossible to hide.
She had full confidence in Timothy’s abilities. When that man went 1nad, he had no regard for consequences. Amelia was doomed to be ruined. She deserved it.
By 8:00 pm, there was still no sign of Amelia. Nolan slammed his hand on the table, his expression dark. “My time is valuable. I’m done waiting. Mr and Mrs. Summers, I’m leaving.”
The others wore grim expressions as Milly quickly got up to escort him out. “Nolan, don’t be upset,” she said softly.
Nolan wasn’t truly angry. His emotions were more complicated. At that moment, he just wanted to leave.
After sending him off, Milly returned to the living room, looking as though she’d been wronged. Celia handed her a card containing 2 million dollars.
“Milly, consider this compensation for tonight. Take it and buy yourself something nice. As for the house you were interested in, I’ll go with you to check it out when I have time.”
“Thank you, Mom. I know you cared about me the most.” Milly hugged her arm tightly.

“You silly girl, if only you were a bit more assertive, you wouldn’t have been bullied all the time,” Celia said. her tone tinged with regret.
Amelia woke up from her fainting spell to find that it was already 10:00 pm. She sighed, forcing herself out of bed.
The room was empty, and she realized she was in a suite that likely belonged to Dylan. Her body felt sticky with sweat, so she headed to the bathroom for a quick shower.
When she came out, there was a knock on the door. Opening it, she saw a worker pushing a dining cart.
“Ms. Summers, you’re awake. Would you like something to cat?”
Her stomach was growling from hunger, so she ate a little to regain her strength.
Checking her phone, she found multiple missed calls–from Celia, Nolan, and even Alexander.
There was also a message from Nolan, “I knew you wouldn’t come.”
Amelia’s expression remained calm as she noticed another text from an unknown number, “Slut. Next time, you won’t be so lucky. You’re done for.”
She guessed it was from Timothy. Her face darkened. She had already vowed to make Timothy pay.
Just then, another message from the same number appeared, “Felix is hospitalized. Get ready for revenge. His methods will break you. Maybe when you wake up, you won’t even know whose bed you’re in.”
These two people were beyond repulsive. Knowing her current place wasn’t safe, she decided not to return there for now.
She called Lily and learned that Timothy was currently drinking at Nocturne. Without hesitation, Amelia headed there.
When Amelia found Lily, Lily was still dressed as a promotional server.
“Lily, lend me your outfit.”
“Amelia, don’t do anything reckless. If something happens, I’ll be implicated.”
“Nothing will happen,” Amelia reassured her.
Lily reluctantly handed over her uniform. After changing into it and donning a hat, Amelia went to the private room where Timothy was.
Timothy, the younger son of the Chase family, was considered prestigious, though the family already had a designated heir. His importance only went so far.
Keeping her head down, Amelia began pouring drinks for the people in the room.
Tonight’s gathering included several well–connected individuals. Some were close to Timothy, while others had merely run into him and joined for drinks.
