Chapter 19 She Felt Like She Was Dying of Thirst

Finished

Amelia opened her hazy eyes, trying to look up at him, but her vision remained blurry. She forced herself to reach out, gripping the hand he had resting on the wheelchair

He didn’t resist, though he kept a gentlemanly distance. Amelia placed his palm against the side of her face, her words coming out heated, labored breaths. Give me water”

It was unbearably hot. Dylan’s fingers suddenly pinched her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. Do you even know who I am?”

Amelia didn’t know. All she knew was that she was dying of thirst. Even the hand gripping her chin seemed strangely alluring

She clasped his hand with both of hers, kissing from his fingers down to his palm. Dylan’s hand twitched slightly, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he turned his wheelchair away. Since she had been leaning against the wheelchair, she fell straight onto the carpet when he moved

The air conditioning in the room was set to a low temperature but all she could see was him heading into the bathroom. Soon, the sound of running water echoed out-

Amelia curled up on the carpet, her entire body itching as if a thousand ants were crawling all over her

Dylan ignored her and moved to a further spot away, picking up a book from the shelf and calmly beginning to read

Amelia gasped for air, her body drenched in sweat. Twenty minutes later, she looked like she had been fished out of a pool, her hair soaked through

Dylan rolled closer, picked her up, and carried her into the bathroom. Without a word, he lowered her into a tub filled with cold water

The clash of searing heat and icy cold sent a shiver through her entire body. For a brief moment, her mind cleared. She pressed her lips together, sitting there completely soaked by the tub

Dylan’s expensive suit was splattered with water, but sitting in his wheelchair, he looked like a God observing mortals, entirely unbothered. Are you clearheaded now?”

Amelia shivered again. She was about to say yes, but the heat surged back stronger than before, overwhelming her completely

She leaned back in the tub, almost sliding under the water entirely. Dylan reacted quickly, pulling her up before she slipped. His clothes became even more drenched in the process

Amelia knelt in the tub, cupping his face in her hands and urgently pressing her lips to his. How could even his kiss feel cold? Her tongue pried open his teeth, desperate to draw more from him

The next second, he pushed her under the cold water. Turning away, his fingers curled slightly on the wheelchair armrests, his wrist bones taut. Stay in there until you’re fully clearheaded.”

This time, Amelia really did snap back to her senses. Her body, overheated just moments ago, now felt the sharp bite of the cold

She slapped her cheeks a few times and realized they were a little swollen. Taking a deep breath, she submerged her face into the cold water until her entire body finally calmed down. Slowly, she got out of the

tub

She nearly slipped to her knees on the floor as she stepped out, the heat now replaced with an overwhelming sense of shame

Finished

Amelia stood at the bathroom door, water dripped from every part of her body. She hesitated. Dylan remained seated in his wheelchair, his wet suit clearly visible

Yet he showed no trace of discomposure. His hands rested, interlocked, on his abdomen, and his eyes lifted to meet hers

Amelia was so embarrassed she wished she could sink into the ground. For a moment, she didn’t know what

to say

Awake now?”

Thank you, for what you did tonight Mr. Hale.”

He placed a file on the bed. Take a look. It’ll be useful to you.”

Eager to shift her focus, Amelia immediately picked up the file. She quickly realized it contained detailed information about the business layouts of the major families in Solandis, along with the intricate relationships between them. For someone with amnesia, this was incredibly valuable

Dylan glanced down and began unbuttoning his suit jacket. Noticing her gaze, he frowned and paused. Get

out.”

They were in a luxury suite, and the two of them were currently in the master bedroom. Amelia felt awkward, as if she were being treated like some kind of predator

She walked towards the living room, catching a glimpse of him removing his suit jacket out of the corner of her eye

Moments later, he emerged wearing a fresh set of clothes. He gestured toward a shopping bag beside him. Your clothes. Change into them.”

Amelia quickly grabbed the bag and headed to the bathroom. Opening it, she found that it included thoughtfully selected undergarments

She changed quickly, but when she accidentally glanced at herself in the mirror, she saw her cheeks were still flushed, and one side of her face was slightly swollen

Amelia lingered hesitantly for a moment, she finally pushed the door open and stepped out. Dylan sat in a wheelchair, flipping through company documents

An ice pack rested on the coffee table. He tilted his head slightly, his long fingers holding on the papers with a calm elegance that gave him an air of reserved sophistication

Use the ice pack on your face,Dylan said without looking up. Amelia had been a bit shaken by everything that had happened earlier in the evening. It was already 11:00 pm, but she didn’t feel ready to leave

She sat on the couch, picked up an ice pack, and gently pressed it to her slightly swollen cheek. The only sound in the room was the rustle of him flipping through his documents. The silence was so profound it felt as if you could hear a pin drop

Amelia had initially been flustered because of the earlier kiss. But seeing how composed he was, she suddenly felt like she had overreacted

To him, that kiss might have been nothing more than a fleeting moment, as insignificant as a breeze brushing past his fingertips

Dylan seemed like someone completely detached from earthly desires, calm and unaffected by worldly

concerns
