Chapter 12
“The Ashenford pack princess is in the Alpha’s office right now. I just walked by and heard… well,
you know what I mean.”
“Are they having sex?”
“What about Elara? She’s been waiting for the Alpha for so long.”
There was silence, then collective sighs:
“The Alpha is so heartless.”
I stood outside the door, listening quietly.
The water cup in my hand was empty.
I returned to my office and sat for a while.
Looking at the resignation letter on my desk, I stood up.
The sooner I quit, the sooner I’d be free.
I walked upstairs. Before I could get close to Rowan’s office, Ronan rushed over to block me, his voice so tense it almost cracked:
“Manager Elara, the Alpha is in a meeting. Now is… really not a good time to go in.”
I gave an “Oh” and pretended to understand, turning away.
He relaxed slightly.
The next second, I elegantly turned back, quickly sidestepped around him, and grabbed the door
handle.
I twisted it and pushed hard.
The moment the door opened, I smelled the Alpha’s scent–rich, intense, with unfamiliar traces intertwined.

“Ah-!”
A scream rang out.
Moira Ashenford, wrapped only in a towel, was leaning against Rowan’s back. Her face was panicked and disheveled.
I stood in the doorway, my gaze like a blade.
The smile on Rowan’s face instantly froze, his expression quickly turning to ice.
nan was nearly scared to death beside me, covering his eyes and stammering an explanation:
u…Manager Elara, Princess Moira was moving files and got sweaty, so… uh, she took a shower. I
was afraid you’d misunderstand, that’s why I didn’t let you in.”
I glanced at him, my expression cool, with a faint, mocking smile: “Ronan, from a proper
second–in–command to a doorkeeper. What a shame.”
With that, I walked into the office.
“How dare you! A mere manager barging in–you’re fired as of tomorrow!” Moira jumped up, cursing in frustration.
I walked straight to the desk, gently placed down my resignation letter, and spoke in a voice as calm as water: “I wasn’t planning to come anymore anyway. I told you before that I’m resigning. I’m busy preparing for my trip.”
Rowan said nothing, his eyes avoiding mine.
“Whatever you want,” he said.
“Mm,” I nodded.
I glanced at him, then at Moira who was still glaring at me, a cold smile playing on my lips: “Well then, continue your… ‘meeting“?”
I turned to leave.
But after just two steps, Moira’s grating voice suddenly came from behind:
“Whether we continue or not is none of your business! Who do you think you are? Rowan doesn’t love you anymore. He loves me now!”

“Shut up!” Rowan growled.
I stopped, slowly turned around, and laughed coldly: “Let her speak. I want to hear just how
shameless Her Highness can be.”
I looked up at her, “Love or not… you’re the other woman, a homewrecker, a destroyer. Don’t expect me to leave gracefully. I could open this door, and I could also nail you both to the pillar of public
shame.”
Moira’s face flushed red. “How dare you call me-”
She charged at me. I slapped her hard across the face.
When she tried to lunge again, I yanked off her towel, restrained her with my bare hands, and pushed her down to the floor.
Just then, a powerful force yanked me backward.
I lost my balance, my waist slamming into the edge of the desk. Pain shot through me, and cold
sweat instantly broke out across my skin.
