Chapter 51
The room Instantly fell silent.
Wallace glared at Nicholas as if he were an enemy who tried to take Sharon away from him. He was furious that he had let his guard down for just a moment, and Nicholas was already cozying up to Sharon.
He snatched the fork from Sharon’s hand and grabbed a fresh plate of fruit. “Here, eat this. Don’t just eat whatever people hand you. You’re still young- watch out for those with ulterior motives.”
Nicholas coughed but didn’t say a word.
Wallace fixed Nicholas with a venos stare for a moment before speaking, his voice tinged with concern. “Shari, what did you just agree to?”
Something about this didn’t sit right with him. He had to figure out what Nicholas, now a sneaky punk in his mind, had convinced his sister to agree to
Sharon’s voice was soft and sweet as she replied, “I agreed to the engagement with the Baxter family.”
Wallace grabbed Nicholas by the collar, his face dark. “You little rascal! Quite the schemer, aren’t you? So, everything I said earlier just went in one ear
and out the other?”
He thought in anger, ‘I’ve just warned that brat to stay away from Shari and to call off the engagement as soon as possible. But he dared to make a move on hier.
‘Doesn’t he know I have seven brothers? Each of us gives him a kick, and he will suffer.’
“Tell me, why the hell did you threaten my sister into agreeing to this? You shameless scumbag. My sister is way out of your league!” Wallace shouted.
Nicholas remained calm, looking helpless and pitiful.
Sharon suddenly chimed in, “Wally, he didn’t threaten me.”
Wallace froze, his expression shifting. “Shari, don’t worry. I’ll teach him a lesson.”
“I’m doing this willingly,” Sharon said firmly.
In that instant, Wallace felt like his entire world had come crashing down. He stared blankly at Sharon, struggling to process that his beloved sister had just agreed to be Nicholas’s fiancée. His heart broke.
Clearing his throat, Wallace quickly said, “Shari, don’t be swayed by his looks. Sure, he’s handsome, but good looks won’t put food on the table. Marvin’s good–looking, too, but all he’s got is a trail of broken hearts.”
He added with heartfelt sincerity, “Handsome men are all liars. They are good at tricking innocent girls like you.”
Nicholas looked exasperated yet amused. ‘Thanks for the compliment,‘ he thought, but he didn’t remember ever specifically tricking any girls. In fact, he’d been deceived by a woman before.
Sharon, noticing her brother’s concern, smiled and added, “He won’t deceive me.”
Wallace’s temper flared up again. He grabbed Nicholas by the collar and yelled, “You scoundrel! What exactly did you say to my sister just now?”
He thought, ‘How could he charm Shari so easily? Why would she agree to the engagement? This doesn’t make sense. If I’d known, I would’ve stayed by Shari’s side the entire time, never letting this punk get anywhere near her. My beloved sister, please don’t do this.‘
“I just expressed my sincerity,” Nicholas replied. He still didn’t fight back, maintaining a respectful demeanor toward Wallace. After all, he wa marry the precious sister Wallace had pampered so much. A little bit of suffering was nothing.
Sharon glanced at Nicholas, who winked at her. She immediately realized that he didn’t seem as innocent and approachable as he looked; he was

At that moment, Wendy walked over. “Finally done. Shari, did you see anything you like? I will buy it for you,”
“Mrs. Baxter, there’s something serious I need to talk to you about,” Wallace said anxiously. He felt like he couldn’t delay any longer–he needed to set things straight now.
He had to end the engagement so Nicholas, who had pulled underhanded tricks, wouldn’t have the chance to make another move.
“Today, I just want to buy something for Shari. I don’t feel like discussing anything else right now. How about you have a good talk with my son instead?” Wendy said.
It seemed like she didn’t even notice her own son’s collar was being grabbed by Wallace. She ignored her son completely and walked over to Sharon. “Come on, let’s go look some more.”
“Mrs. Baxter, aren’t you going to help your son? I’m not exactly known for having the best temper, so I might end up hurting him, and you wouldn’t like that to happen.”
“It’s okay. He’s tough. A little injury won’t matter,” Wendy replied nonchalantly, completely unfazed. She believed that if her son wanted to win over a girl, he should be ready to pay the price. And so, she happily led her future daughter–in–law off.
Wallace gritted his teeth. “Come on, you asshole, we’re going to have a serious talk now.” He was determined to make Nicholas regret what he had done. Sharon glanced back and found Nicholas looked particularly slender and frail in front of her brother.
‘He should be able to handle it, right?‘ she thought. ‘After all, he’s known about my overprotective brothers for ages. If he can’t even get past them, then there’s no point in continuing the engagement.‘
So, she continued shopping with Wendy, completely at ease.
Sharon and Wendy soon entered another showroom, which had an
impressive array of jewelry.
Wendy was in a great mood. Finally, her son had taken action, and it looked like wedding bells weren’t far off. She’d always thought her son might end up single forever, but now, finally, he fell in love with someone, which hadn’t been easy.
Wendy picked up a piece of jewelry and held it up against Sharon. “What do you think of this one, Shari?”
“Looks fine,” Sharon replied.
Wendy shook her head. “This gemstone is too small, and the quality isn’t great.” She set it down and called out, “Bring me your most expensive piece.” Her extravagant demeanor was actually kind of endearing.
Sharon could feel the genuine affection Wendy had for her–pure and untainted by any hidden motives, so she didn’t dislike Wendy.
Wendy, coming from the most prestigious family in the city, could easily afford anything in this room.
Soon, the manager brought out the most expensive piece in the showroom. “Mr. Baxter, this piece is from the famous lapidarist Skyler. Since his retirement, he hasn’t produced any new works.”
“This one is good. It’s perfect,” Wendy said, her eyes lighting up. She turned to Sharon and asked, “Do you like this one?”
Sharon’s gaze lingered on the jewelry set for a moment. Just as she was about to speak, a group of people appeared behind her, led by a ri Janelle, and her daughter, Ashley. Both of them were decked out in dazzling jewels.

Janelle said with an air of arrogance, “I’m sorry, but Master Skyler’s work isn’t for sale.”
“Mrs. Dolan!” The manager was stunned. This wasn’t what they’d been told earlier.
Janelle snorted. “What? My words don’t matter to you? This is the Dolan family’s showroom.”

‘If I say it’s not for sale, it’s not for sale,‘ she thought. ‘Especially not to the woman standing before me.‘
Wendy frowned slightly and said, “When did the Dolan family get so arrogant? I’ve never heard of an exhibit here being off limits for sale.”
“Never heard of it? Well, now you have. We’ll sell to anyone, except you. What are you going to do about it?” Janelle said.
Wendy was upset. She wouldn’t have cared before, but today she was going to give it to Sharon.
In the next instant, Sharon took Wendy’s arm and said, “It’s okay, Wendy. This is just a fake, after all.”
Everyone in the room froze. ‘It’s a fake? Isn’t it supposed to be Master Skyler’s final masterpiece?‘ they thought.
