“Worried about Kieran and Mathew? Scarlett asked knowingly.
Among others, Augustin admitted without shame. ‘I don’t trust any wolf around her.”
Scarlett turned to Bryloch. “Why don’t you claim me like that?”
The table erupted in laughter, breaking the tension that had built up during our meal. We finished dinner on a lighter nots before returning to our separate rooms for the night.
The next morning, I woke early to ensure everything was ready for Luna Amelia’s arrival. Since Augustin and I weren’t married yet, she would be the Luna of the house and in charge of everything. Although Augustin wanted me to take control, I’d decided to ask for Amelia’s input before taking over as Luna.
Augustin and I stood at the entrance of Levenston Manor, waiting for their cars to arrive. As Bryloch had predicted, Evanth brought Elowen with him. I was grateful I wouldn’t have to dine with them, as knowing Elowen was Cassandra’s cousin made me
1 uncomfortable. But Amelia had insisted Evanth move in as well, so we had no choice.
Amelia stepped out of the car, elegant as always. She greeted Augustin first with a kiss on the cheek, then turned to me with a
smile.
“Juno, darling,” she said, embracing me briefly. “I insist you show me to my room personally.”
“Of course,” I agreed, looking at Augustin. “I’ll be back soon.”
We arrived at the suite I’d prepared for her. Amelia walked around, examining everything with a critical eye. I knew she’d lived in this manor before moving to Goldenvale, so she was inspecting the changes I’d made to her old room.
“This will do nicely,” she finally said. “Thank you for your attention to detail.”
I nodded and turned to leave, but her voice stopped me.
“Juno, wait. I need to speak with you.”
I turned back, maintaining a polite expression despite my reluctance to be alone with her. “Yes?”
“Do you truly love my son, or are you simply using him to avoid being a prisoner?” she asked bluntly.
I blinked, taken aback by her directness. “Excuse me?”
“My son’s heart was broken once before,” Amelia continued. “By a woman who claimed to love him, then ran off to Fireland. I’ve heard rumors that Kieran is quite taken with you. I worry history might repeat itself.”
She stepped closer, “I don’t like you, but I’m willing to give you a chance to prove yourself.”
I took a deep breath. “With all due respect, Luna Amelia, I don’t need to prove anything to you. Only to Augustin. And he knows my
heart.”
“Does he?” she challenged.
“Yes,” I replied firmly. “I love your son for who he is, not his position or wealth. I came here voluntarily to protect my former mate, his fated mate, and my pack. I’ve lost everything I had, and I’ve found happiness with Augustin that I never expected.”
Amelia’s eyes widened slightly. “Your former mate asked you to share?

“Yes,” I said, holding her gaze,
“I see, she murmured, something like understanding flickering in her eyes. But it quickly hardened again. Regardless, I will be watching you closely and investigating your background thoroughly need to be certain my son isn’t making a mistake by binding himself to a woman who’s been marked by another.”
As I said,” I replied, keeping my tone respectful but firm, “I don’t need to prove myself to you. Augustin knows the truth, and that’s all that matters to me.”
She studied me for a long moment, then nodded. “You may go.”
I returned to our bedroom, deciding not to tell Augustin about his mother’s words. I didn’t want to create problems between them, and honestly, her opinion didn’t matter to me, Only Augustin’s, did.
When I entered our room, he looked up from his desk with a smile that made my heart skip.
“Did my mother start planning our wedding already?” he asked, only half–joking.
I simply smiled and nodded, choosing not to mention the tension with Luna Amelia.
