Juno’s POV
What’s happening?” I demanded as two guards approached the bed,
“Shut up, you Forestvale whore,” Evanth spat. “If you resist, you’ll be charged with treason on top of everything else.”
“Does Augustin know about this?” I asked, backing away from the approaching guards.
Evanth laughed coldly. “My brother’s permission isn’t needed. You seem to have forgotten your place here. Sleeping in the Alpha King’s bed doesn’t change the fact that you’re a prisoner
“At least tell me what this is about,” I said as the guards grabbed my arms, securing them behind my back with rough hemp rope.
“All in good time,” Evanth replied, his eyes glittering with malice.
I tried reaching out to Augustin through our link. Augustin? What’s Happening? No response. He wasn’t nearby. I tried Bryloch, then Adryx Nothing.
Evanth’s hand connected with my cheek so hard my head snapped sideways. Pain exploded across my face.
“Looking for my brother?” he sneered. “He’s with bur mother, who was attacked this afternoon and is fighting for her life. A member of the Elder Council died in the attack.”
Cold dread washed over me. “What happened?”
“The surviving warriors confirmed the attackers were a mix of Forestvale and Fireland mercenaries.” Evanth stepped closer, his face inches from mine. “Tell me, how long have you been working with Kieran?”
“I’m not-”
“Don’t lie to me. Ever since you arrived in Clifflands, Kieran has attacked us twice. First at the club, and now our mother.” His eyes narrowed. “You were the first outsider to learn where our mother lives, and suddenly she’s attacked? That’s not a coincidence.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I kept my voice steady despite the fear coursing through me.
“Perhaps Kieran came looking for you, and when he couldn’t find you, he decided to cause damage instead.” Evanth grabbed my chin roughly. “What does he want with you?”
“I want to speak to Augustin,” I said firmly.
Evanth’s hand connected with my other cheek. “You will address him as Alpha King! You have no right to use his name so casually!”
I tasted blood in my mouth but remained silent.
“The Elder Council has given me permission to use force if necessary Evanth continued, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper. “But I’d rather not damage my brother’s little toy.”
When I didn’t respond, he nodded to the guards. “Take her to the cells.”
They dragged me through the hallways, past staring servants and guards. I kept my head high despite the humiliation.
The prison cells were located in the basement of the west wing. Dark damp, and reeking of fear and urine. The guards shoved me into a cell where Scarlett and Freya already waited. Freya’s nose was bleeding, she must have put up a fight.

“So they got you too,” Scarletsald grimly as the cell door clanged shit.
“What’s going on? I asked, moving to Freya’s side to check her injur
“They re rounding up everyone from Forestvale,” Freya explained, wiring as I examined her nose. ‘Apparently, we’re all suspected traitors now.”
I glanced around the cramped cell. “Where are the others? The women who were brought here with us?”
Scarlett pointed through the bars. In the larger holding area, I could see several women chained to the floor with silver links.

“They ran out of cells,” Scarlett explained. “So they’re keeping some cut there. This is insane, We’ve sworn loyalty to Clifflands. We’ve done nothing wrong.”
“Tell that to Evanth,” Freya spat. “He’s enjoying this.
“Augustin will fix this when he returns,” I said.
Scarlett leaned against the wall. “What if the Elder Council is backing Evanth? Even Augustin has to follow investigation procedures,”
“Why would Kieran attack Augustin’s mother?” Freya wondered. “What does he gain?”
“Destabilizing Clifflands,” Scarlett suggested. “If his mother dies, Augustin might act rashly. It’s a strategic move.”
I frowned. “It doesn’t seem like Kieran’s style. He’s more direct. This feels like someone is making it look like Kieran’s work.”
