“Right this way, he said with a deep how, his eyes flickering nervously to Augustin’s face.
Some people in line started grumbling about the special treatment until they realized who we were. Their complaints died instantly, replaced by hashed whispers and respectful nods
Augustin placed his hand on the small of my back, guiding me through the entrance. The heavy bass hit me immediately, vibrating through my chest as we followed another staff member upstairs to the VIP section.
Your private area, sir, the host said, gesturing to a roped–off section with couches and a dedicated bar. The seating arrangement allowed us to look down at the main floor.
I leaned against the railing, watching a girl spin gracefully around a pole while the crowd cheered. The DJ transitioned into one of my favorite dance tracks.
“Enjoying the view? Augustin asked, sliding his arm around my waist.
“I am,” I replied honestly. I’ve never been anywhere like this before.”
“Never?” His eyebrow arched in surprise.
I shook my head. With Matthew, we only ever attended formal Pack gatherings or stuffy official events. Never anything this wild and free. That wasn’t “proper behavior for a Luna.
Your mate is a stick in the mud, Seraphine grumbled in my mind.
Ex–mate, I corrected her silently.
Augustin ordered champagne, and soon a server appeared with a bottle and elegant crystal flutes. He handed me a glass, the bubbles tickling my nose as I took a sip.
“Would you like to dance?” he asked, his fingers lightly stroking up my arm.
“In a bit,” I replied. “Let’s enjoy our drinks first.”
He nodded, then leaned down to press his lips against my bare shoulder. His scent washed over me, tinged with a hint of possessiveness that made my pulse quicken. I couldn’t help the small moan that escaped my lips as I leaned back against his solid frame.
We watched as Scarlett dragged Bryloch to the dance floor first, her purple dress shimmering under the lights as they moved together. She threw her head back laughing at something he whispered in her ear.
“Ready now?” Augustin asked after we finished our champagne.
I nodded, setting my glass down and taking his hand. We left Freya and Adryx at the table, though I noticed Adryx whispering something to her. I hoped she would eventually relax enough to join us. Her past made crowded places difficult.
The music pulsed through me as Augustin pulled me close on the dance floor. For those moments, he wasn’t the Alpha King of Clifflands, and I wasn’t a former Luna turned whatever I was now. He was just my boyfriend, and I was his girl, being a little naughty in a club with our friends.
I turned my back to him, swaying my hips against his body. His hands gripped my waist, his breath hot against my neck. The contact sent electricity through my veins.
Eventually, we returned to our table, breathless and laughing. To my surprise, Freya and Adryx had joined the dancing crowd. Though Freya’s movements were still stiff, she was clearly trying to loosen up. Adryx kept a respectful distance, only occasionally placing his hands on her waist.

He nodded, reaching for his drink as 1 made my way through the crowd.
The women’s restroom was nearly empty when I entered. I stood before the mirror, checking my makeup and fixing a strand of hair that had fallen loose. The door opened behind me, and a blonde woman in a short white lace dress entered. She had striking blue eyes and full lips painted a deep red.
She stood at the mirror beside me, adjusting her outfit and touching up her lipstick. After a moment, she turned to me with a smile that didn’t reach her
“You’re one of the new ones, aren’t you?” she asked.
1 frowned. “Excuse me?”
“You know,” she waved her hand dismissively, “one of the Forestvale Lunas that was brought in. The ‘tributes.”
“I don’t know who you are,” I replied calmly, “and I don’t really care your words. But your little game of intercepting me in the women’s bathroom tells me all I need to know about how threatened you feel by my relationship with Augustin.”
Her mouth fell open.
“You’re quite obvious,” I continued, capping my lipstick. “If things between Augustin and me weren’t solid, he wouldn’t have me in his VIP section, now would he? Now if you’ll excuse me, my Alpha is waiting.”
I walked out, leaving her standing there speechless. I felt smug satisfaction, but underneath it, unease crawled up my spine. Who was this woman, and what did she want?
As I approached our table, I noticed Augustin standing face to face with another man. They were arguing intensely, their body language hostile. The stranger resembled Augustin but was slightly older, with the same dark hair but shorter, and similar features arranged in a perpetual. This had to be Evanth Levenston, Augustin’s older brother.
I watching the confrontation unfold.
