Chapter 36
No Augustin. I swallowed my disappointment and slid into my usual chair, forcing my lips into a polite smile.
“Good morning,” I said.
Freya’s eyes immediately darted to my bare neck, widening in shock. It’s gone,” she whispered.
I nodded stiffly, my hand instinctively rising to touch the empty space. The absence of Matthew’s mark left me feeling exposed and vulnerable in a way that made the transparent fabric covering my body seem like armor in comparison.
From Scarlett’s disheveled appearance and the love bites visible on her neck, she’d clearly spent the entire night with Bryloch. A stab of loneliness pierced me, but I couldn’t begrudge her happiness. After months of neglect and abuse, she was finally basking in the warmth of desire and attention. Despite her cynical façade, I could see the truth in her eyes–she was falling hopelessly, dangerously in love with him. I prayed to whatever gods might be listening that he wouldn’t shatter her already broken heart.
The doors crashed open, and Augustin strode in with predatory grace. My entire body froze in shock when I spotted the bright crimson lipstick mark on his cheek. Jealousy surged through me like lightning, so fierce and unexpected it stole my breath.
I dug my nails into my palms, forcing my face into a neutral. “Good morning, Alpha King,” I greeted.
He slid into the seat beside me, snatching his napkin with barely controlled rage. He scrubbed at the mark with such violent force.
He seized my hand and pressed his lips against it possessively. “How was your night, Berry?” he asked, his deep voice rumbling through me like thunder, igniting a heat in my core that I desperately tried to ignore.
Every instinct screamed at me to yank my hand away, to deny him any contact after seeing another woman’s mark on him.
“Peaceful,” I said icily.
Why are you upset? His voice crashed into my mind without warning, making me gasp audibly. He’d never mind–linked with me
before, and the intimate invasion of his thoughts made my pulse race.
I’m not angry. I’m just respecting myself, I shot back, struggling to maintain my composure when all I wanted was to scream at him.
A dangerous smile curved his lips as he placed his hand on my bare thigh, his touch burning through the thin fabric. “I warned you about wearing these clothes around others,” he growled, his voice so low only I could hear.
“It suited my mood best,” I challenged, meeting his darkening gaze with defiance.
As his hand slid higher, his fingers slipping into my pussy, a feral growl rumbled from his chest. My body responded instantly,
trembling violently despite the raging anger within me.
He leaned in, his hot breath grazing my neck, sending waves of excitement through me. He sucked hard, leaving marks on my skin, and claiming me as his own in front of everyone. I gasped sharply, on the verge of moaning.
People are watching, I mind–linked frantically, mortification and arousal battling within me as every eye in the room fixed on us.
He responded by sucking harder, his teeth grazing my sensitive flesh until a shameless moan tore from my throat. I felt myself melting against him, hating my body’s betrayal.
If you can wear revealing clothes in public, then this shouldn’t be a problem either, he taunted, starting to touch my labia and tease my clit. With nothing underneath the thin fabric, his intrusion was effortless, and I quickly became wet.
Please, I begged, no longer certain if I was pleading for him to stop or continue.

Next time I tell you
to do something, you do it, he commanded, his mental voice thick with authority. In one fluid motion, he stood and hoisted me over his shoulder.
