Chapter 35

Juno’s POV

I stared at the door long after Augustin left, my fingers digging into the bedsheets. The hollow ache in my chest throbbed like an open wound, raw and pulsing with each heartbeat. Yet somehow, the suffocating confusion that had clouded my mind was finally lifting. Even through the crushing weight of grief, a gratitude burned deep within me. Augustin had welcomed me into his pack- solving my greatest terror since Matthew’s betrayal. I wouldn’t become a Rogue

You’re not alone anymore, Seraphine whispered in my mind, her voice a balm against my ragged emotions

No, we’re not,I choked out, my fingers trembling as they traced where Matthew’s mark had been. The skin felt aliensmooth and unmarked

We’ll never be quite the same again, my wolf observed

Are you okay?I asked, panic rising

Weak, but alive. We’ll never return to one hundred percent, but we’re better than most who lose their mates. The resignation in her voice tore at my heart

I swallowed hard, fury suddenly replacing my sorrow. I would train. I would rebuild Seraphine’s strength through sheer force of will, though I doubted Augustin would allow such intensive training

I had wanted him to stay, to hold me, to take the pain away with his touch. I would have surrendered everything, given anything he asked just to feel something other than this emptiness. But he’d chosen to be a gentleman instead, and somehow that hurt even

Later that night, I lay in bed clutching Matthew’s letter. Each word carved itself deeper into my heart with every reading. The pain was excruciating, yet necessary. Despite everything, I understood his impossible position. His letter had given me the one thing I desperately cravedan ending

My hands shook as I made my decision. I would write back

I flung myself from the bed and stalked to the vanity, yanking open drawers until I found paper and pen. I said

*Matthew

thank I received your letter, and no, I’m not angry. I want to thank you for giving me the closure I needed. It means more than you can imagine

I never blamed you for what happened between us. We were all victims of fate, including Isabelle. Please don’t swear that no one will replace me. Give Isabelle the respect and position she deserves. Don’t let my sacrifice be for nothing

I’ve been accepted into the Alpha King’s pack, so I remain stable. Please love Isabelle and your coming child with your whole heart- they deserve it. I’m doing well, and the Alpha King has been kind to all of us

If we meet again, I hope it’s in health and happiness. Know that you’ll always hold a place in my heart

Juno

I read it over and over, my vision blurring with unshed tears that I refused to let fall. There were no envelopes in the room, but I would beg Augustin to help me send it if necessary

I guess this chapter is officially closed, Seraphine whispered, her voice tinged with both relief and melancholy

Chapter 35

As long as we’re all still alive, no chapter is truly finished,I replied bitterly, slamming the letter onto my nightstand before collapsing into bed, praying for the mercy of dreamless sleep

The next morning, I yanked open my wardrobe and grabbed the most revealing outfit I could find, deliberately defying Augustin’s warning. The sheer fabric clung to my body like a second skin, leaving nothing to the imagination. A spike of rebellious satisfaction shot through melet him see what he was missing. Let everyone see

When I stormed into the dining room, the scene before me sent a jolt of envy through my chest. Scarlett and Bryloch were practically devouring each other, his hands possessively gripping her waist as she laughed against his lips. If no one had been around, he would’ve taken her right there on the dining table. Even Freya, usually so guarded, leaned into Adryx’s touch with unmistakable longing in her eyes
