I sank my teeth into the tongue he shoved into my mouth. In an instant, the taste of blood filled both of
Mouths.
Daxon yelped in pain and let go of my head, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
“Are
you insane?!”
“I think you’re the one who’s lost it.”
Suddenly, he pulled me into his arms and started bawling. “Davina, I can’t live without you. Why did you leave me?”
I stared at him crying like a damn kid and couldn’t help but laugh. After everything–hurting me over and over, tossing me aside again and again–he got the nerve to ask me why?
‘Maybe people like him never realize they’re the problem.”
“Daxon, listen to me. If you keep me locked up in here, that’s kidnapping. You’ll lose. everything. Let me go, and I won’t tell anyone what happened. We go our separate ways, clean slate.”
He just shook his head like a man possessed. “No! Davina, I can’t lose you!”
Looking at him, clearly on the edge of a breakdown, I didn’t know what else to say. So I just
started co down in my head.
Ten, nine, eight, seven…
Just then, the iron door slammed open with force.
I finally let out a breath. Humphrey had come to get me.
He’d been worried about my safety before I left, so he secretly had the most advanced GPS tracking system in the world placed on me–and he’d been following me ever since.
“My princess, I’m sorry I’m late. Are you okay?” He glanced at the blood on the corner of my lips, and I could see the murderous look in his eyes.
I shook my head lightly and said in a low voice, “I’m okay, Humphrey. They didn’t hurt me.”
He carefully checked me from head to toe before finally breathing out in relief. Then he hugged me tightly.
“Thank God you’re okay.”
“What about them?” he asked, voice cold again as he glanced at my adoptive parents and
Daxon.
I hesitated for a second. “Let them go.”
I looked at the people who once played the roles of ‘family‘ and ‘lover‘ in my life. I felt nothing for them now–just emptiness.
“I won’t press charges,” I said flatly. “Go back to the U.S. And stay out of my life from now
on.”

“Davina, you really forgive us?” my adoptive mom asked, tears in her eyes, same old fake tone, same fake concern.
I looked to Humphrey. He nodded, then ordered his assistant to arrange a private jet.
“I’ll transfer you another sum,” he added calmly, “to repay you for raising her all these. years.”
His tone was polite, but the pressure behind it made it impossible to argue.
“Thank you, thank you, Mr. Ashbourne. We’ll behave from now on,” my foster father said, hodding furiously.
Daxon stood silently in the corner, his eyes clouded, not saying a word.
Soon, they finally left.
I thought it was over…
Humphrey’s POV
Three days later, I got an anonymous email in my private inbox. Attached was a crystal–clear pregnancy test report.
[Patient Cleo Penrose
[Gestation: 7 weeks
[Note: Pregnancy confirmed]
Ibarely glanced at it and moved to delete it until another message popped up.
[This baby’s yours. If you don’t believe me, I’ll give birth and do a DNA test.]
My vision darkened.
[I decide who gets to have my child. You know damn well where that thing came from. If you don’t get rid of it, you’ll be going down with it.]
Davina’s POV
None of us had anticipated Cleo’s next move.
On my wedding day, she showed up–bold as hell–right at the red carpet entrance.
She wore a snow–white maternity gown, her belly obvious, makeup flawless, face the picture of fragile sorrow.
“Humphrey is getting married.” She smiled at the cameras. “But I’m the mother of his child.” She’d even invited dozens of international media outlets to live broadcast the whole thing. “I’m carrying the baby of Humphrey Ashbourne,” she announced. “And not only is he denying it–he’s marrying my sister–in–law.”
