Chapter 2
Their marriage had been rushed. They signed the marriage document but never held a
ceremony.
Now, Lucian had given her the title of “wife.”
So I would help her make up for the wedding she never had.
Elise was clearly moved by my words. After all, no girl has never dreamed of being a beautiful
bride.
Lucian seemed to think I had a point. His expression shifted slightly, but he didn’t say
anything more.
Elise noticed his softened demeanor. Her eyes flickered with hesitation as she tentatively asked, “Are you sure it’s okay if I try it on?”
I nodded and signaled for the staff to help her change.
Lucian was already dressed in a groom’s suit. When he saw Elise going to change, he started
taking off his jacket.
But I stopped him. “She’s pregnant. It’s not easy for her to move around. What if you leave and something happens to her?”
At that, he hesitated, then quietly stood beside me, waiting. Still, a hint of worry clouded his
eyes.
Catching that subtle shift in his expression, I gave a faint, mocking smile.
Soon, Elise emerged from the fitting room with the help of a staff member.
Her baby bump hadn’t shown yet, so her figure was still similar to mine. The gown fit her perfectly..
Elise beamed with delight, then looked at Lucian, trying to act shy. “Lucian, do I look good in this?”
Lucian, who had been staring at her without blinking, snapped out of it and gave a soft “Yes.”
Just then, another staff member came over. Upon seeing her, they exclaimed, “This gown

looks stunning on you! You two are the most perfect bride and groom I’ve ever seen.”
At those words, everyone’s expression changed.
Elise nervously glanced at Lucian, then quickly put on a smile and said, “Oh, no, you’ve misunderstood…”
Before she could finish, I clapped and sincerely praised, “You’re right, they do look perfect together. Elise, this gown suits you so well–it’s like it was made just for you!”
With such a beauty, how could we not let everyone enjoy the view?
Lucian looked at me with disbelief in his eyes. He knew how I used to be–I never let anyone
touch what was mine.
Especially something as meaningful as this wedding dress.
Yet now, not only had I let her wear it, I was even complimenting her generously.
“Solene, you…”
I blinked at him and said lightly, “Relax, I was just saying. Oh! I just remembered I have something urgent to deal with at work. I’ll head back to the office now. Have fun! You two.”
With that, I turned and walked toward the entrance of the bridal shop.
Lucian instinctively moved to follow me, but Elise held him back.
As I reached the doorway and glanced back inside, I saw Lucian carefully supporting her as they walked back to the fitting room.
He was so attentive, his eyes never leaving her.
As if, in his world, there was no room for anyone else as long as she was there.
At that moment, I felt dazed.
Did he really marry her out of obligation?
Or… did he actually love her?
I didn’t have an answer. And I didn’t want to humiliate myself by digging further.

The next day, I went to the hospital for my pre–surgery exam as scheduled.
When the doctor asked about the baby’s father, I simply said, “He’s busy with work. He
couldn’t come.”
That morning, I had thought about telling Lucian everything.
But I called him several times, and not once did he pick up.
After the surgery, my face was pale as paper. I leaned weakly against the wall as I made my way
out of the hospital.
Just as I reached the lobby, I saw Lucian–there with Elise for her prenatal checkup.
