Chapter 11

I walked out of the hospital and never looked back

A week later, I heard Cassandra had been resuscitatedbarely. The stroke left her

paralyzed

Deke lost it. Stormed into Anita’s hospital room and beat her. She was still weak from

surgery, so yeah, it got ugly

That was her breaking point. She called the cops

Deke got arrested for assault. While he was locked up, no one took care of Cassandra

I still had his key. One day, curiosity won

The place reeked. Rotting food, stale airmade me gag. And there she was, Cassandra, limp in bed, eyes dull, body unmoving. Not even a sip of water nearby

Then she saw me. Her eyes flickereddesperate. She tried to speak, to beg. Nothing came

out

Leaning against the doorframe, I smiled

I’m just here to return the key. Don’t worry, Deke will be out in two days.”

Then I turned and left

By the time he got out, Anita had filed for divorce. The same day he got the papers, he showed up at my office with a diamond ring

I watched from a distance. He stood there, waiting

I felt nothing but disgust. No anger. No sadness. Justnothing

Perfect

Didn’t bother seeing him. Called security instead

Chapter II

Deke had played himself. One bad move led to another, and now? Game over

I’d never look back. Never forgive

He was utterly stunned

He didn’t get it. Stood outside my office for hours, clutching that stupid ring box. By nightfall, he finally gave up

Anita skipped town, cut him off completely. If they’d just been honest from the start, maybe it wouldn’t have crashed like this. But they were too selfish, too greedy

After his arrest, Deke lost his job. With his paralyzed mom at home, he had no choice but to

stay and take care of her. His savings bled out fast

Three months later, he crawled back, begging for a second chance

I knew better

This wasn’t loveit was desperation. Deke resented me. He wanted a financial lifeline, and he thought I’d be dumb enough to play along

What he didn’t know? I’d found his secret account. Just days ago, he’d posted a gem online

[How to win someone backthen quietly drain them dry?

His comment section? A cesspool of scumbags swapping tips. And Deke? He was all ears

His call came while I was on my way to visit my mom

I answered, cool as ever. I’m back in my hometown.”

He sounded wrecked. When will you be back? Let’s talk, just once.”

I smiled. I’m not coming back. We’ll never see each other again.”
