Chapter 39
After months of rehabilitation, Nathaniel’s legs gradually began to recover.
Although he still walked rather slowly, the signs of his leg injury were barely noticeable now.
Winter was approaching. Though the days were often still sunny, the temperature was nearing freezing.
Each breath produced a cloud of white mist in the air.
Despite the cold, Riley and Nathaniel were busy preparing for their wedding.
After everything they’d been through, they enjoyed planning every detail of the wedding themselves.
They had waited for this wedding for so long that they didn’t want to delegate any part of it. The process of preparing together was filled with happiness.
Most of the arrangements and items were already prepared, and the wedding was approaching soon. Today, they were scheduled to try on their wedding attire.
Remembering how stunning Riley had looked in her wedding dress the last time, Nathaniel felt nervous.
While Riley was inside trying on her dress, Nathaniel, already dressed in his suit, paced anxiously around the room, making the shop assistants smile.
“Mr. Blackwood, no need to be nervous. Miss Morgan will be out soon. Please take a seat for a moment.”
“Stop laughing,” Nathaniel said, covering his face with his hand. He knew he looked a mess, but he couldn’t help his nervousness. “If I could sit still, I wouldn’t be pacing like this.”
“You can leave now,” he added awkwardly, dismissing the assistant.
The assistant nodded with a smile. “Yes, sir.”
As the assistant walked out, Nathaniel turned around just as the fitting room door opened.
She emerged slowly, the beautiful arc of the strapless design accentuating her slender waist that seemed as if it could be encircled by one hand. Her black hair was styled in an elegant updo, perfectly complementing the snow–white wedding dress and highlighting her perfect silhouette. The full skirt with its delicate pleats and white tulle moved gently with each step, making her appear like a fairy gliding across water in the warm yellow light.
Nathaniel took a deep breath as he met her eyes, bright as stars, sparkling with joy. Unable to control himself, he walked over and pulled her into his arms, lowering his head until their noses touched.
“Riley, you’re so beautiful.”
Nathaniel lovingly kissed her forehead, the tip of her nose, and then moved down to cover her lips. Outside the window, the orange–red sunset bathed them in its glow as they kissed in the fading light.
This time, they were finally together.
