Chapter 28
Riley, who woke up in the hospital room, found it hard to explain her fainting.
“Riley, you have low blood sugar and are receiving an IV drip. Later, you can come with me to see Nathaniel,” said Sophia as she brought breakfast, standing kindly at her bedside.
The two children had been childhood sweethearts, playinates when they were young, and naturally became a couple as they
grew up.
Sophia had always treated Riley like her own daughter. They had all been frightened when they saw Riley collapse in the hallway.
Fortunately, there were doctors nearby who immediately came to check on her.
When they learned it was just due to not having breakfast and being too upset, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
“Mrs. Blackwood, how is Nathaniel…?”
Seeing Riley’s eyes turn red and her voice beginning to choke up, Sophia couldn’t help but feel her own nose stinging.
“It’s okay, Riley. Nathaniel will be fine. You just rest and get your IV now, eat something later, and then we’ll go see him together.”
Seeing Riley nod and lie back down, Sophia felt heartbroken.
These two children were supposed to be getting married. Both families had set the date, just waiting for them to graduate before holding the wedding.
A while back, Nathaniel had suddenly said he wanted to cancel the engagement. His father had scolded him, only to later learn that it was Riley who had wanted to cancel.
Nathaniel had assured them it was just a temporary cancellation, that Riley might be experiencing pre–wedding anxiety, and they would hold it after some time.
Only now did they realize that in just half a year, these two had experienced so much.
And Xavier, being the older brother, had helped his younger brother conceal all this from the family.
Looking at the two children–one lying in a hospital bed and one heartbroken–Sophia couldn’t help but feel a surge of bitterness. She didn’t understand: did this Victoria really need to destroy these two children before she would be satisfied?
“Riley, I’m here. Eat something…”
After giving his statement to the police, Theo rushed to the hospital, only to learn that Riley had fainted. When he came to see her, only a nurse was giving her an IV.
Seeing she was still unconscious, he went downstairs to buy her some food, but when he came back, someone had already brought food for her.

Chapter 28
“Hello, ma’am. You are…?”
Putting down the breakfast he had bought. Theo greeted Sophia, wondering if this could be Riley’s mother.
“Hello, I’m Nathaniel’s mother. Are you Riley’s classmate?”
Sophia looked at the handsome and sunny boy in front of her. He called Riley “Riley2
Could it be that Nathaniel had hidden something else from the family? This boy… could he be Riley’s new boyfriend?
“Hello. I go to the same school as Riley. My name is Theo. We’re good friends.”
Theo smiled, noticing how Sophia was sizing him up. He knew what she was thinking–probably that he was trying to steal her future daughter–in–law.
Coincidentally, he was indeed trying to.
“Make yourself at home, have a seat. You two talk. I’ll go check on Nathaniel.”
With that, Sophia lovingly stroked Riley’s pale face and said softly: “Riley, eat something. Come over after your IV is done. I’ll go ahead.”
“Okay,” Riley’s red–rimmed eyes began to well up with tears again. “I’ll come as soon as the IV is finished.”
As Sophia walked out, she couldn’t help but look back at Riley, who was about to cry.
She shook her head, knowing she had overthought it. Riley’s state showed no sign of having feelings for someone else.
This child probably didn’t even realize how much she loved Nathaniel.
