Chapter 2
Jessica immediately ran to Ryan with my message. He, being the silver–tongued liar he was, somehow convinced her I was making it all up. In the end, they turned against me together.
Ryan’s texts came flooding in: “What the hell is wrong with you, Mia? After four years together, you can’t stand to see me happy?”
“Did you really think she’d believe you over me? How pathetic!”
Jessica wasn’t any kinder: “Just because you couldn’t keep a man doesn’t mean you have to trash my relationship. Get over yourself and move on.”
I laughed bitterly as I finished packing my bags and headed to the airport.
Just before boarding, my phone rang. An unfamiliar voice.said, “Is this Mia? Your boyfriend is completely wasted at Club Noir. You need to come get him now!”
My heart jumped, but I quickly composed myself. “I’m not his girlfriend. His girlfriend’s name is Jessica. Call her.”
“But he only remembers your number. Keeps saying you’re his girlfriend! He’s barely conscious. Please come quickly!”
Those words echoed in my mind: “Only remembers your number. Keeps saying you’re his girlfriend.”
My resolve weakened. Maybe the rational Ryan had abandoned me for his career, but perhaps the emotional Ryan still cared about me?
I tried messaging Jessica, only to discover she’d blocked me.
Four years together meant something, right? Plus, Ryan had been hospitalized once before. from drinking too much.
I couldn’t just leave him there..
So I gave up my flight, dragged my suitcase into a taxi, and rushed to the club.

Chapter 2
Little did I know that this moment of weakness would turn out to be the worst decision of
my life.
When I got to Club Noir, Ryan was slumped over the bar. The place was dimly lit with the strong smell of alcohol hanging in the air.
I called his name several times, but he didn’t respond. With a sigh, I hauled him up, draping his arm over my shoulder to carry him out.
Suddenly, a sharp slap landed across my face.
–
I turned to see a familiar face – Jessica.
Before I could speak, she started shouting to everyone around us.
“Hey everyone! Check this out! This homewrecker is trying to steal my man!”
The dancing crowd gathered around us as Jessica continued her performance.
“Look at this desperate ex! They’re already broken up, but she’s still chasing him! I go to the
bathroom for five minutes, and she swoops in to seduce him!”
Whispers of disgust rippled through the crowd.
“That’s so pathetic, clinging to an ex like that.” “If you couldn’t keep him, just move on
already!”
The irony wasn’t lost on me. Between us, she was the actual homewrecker, yet here she was, playing the victim.
My voice shook as I tried to defend myself. “I didn’t do anything wrong! Someone called me saying he was unconscious from drinking. That’s why I came!”
I pulled out my phone and called back the number that had contacted me, hoping to prove
my story.
But… All I got was an automated message saying the phone was turned off.
For an instant, I lost my composure.
