Valerie’s POV
When I opened my eyes, I was in the pack’s clinic. I was shocked that I was still alive. I had thought I was surely going to die.
“Oh thank the moon goddess! You’re awake!” Dante’s voice cried out in relief from beside me.
I turned to him slowly, wincing slightly at the pain in my stomach. “Hey, I’m alive.”
Dante’s eyes were bloodshot, and his hair was disheveled. His eyes welled up with tears as he stared at me.
“I thought I had lost you.” He muttered softly.
I furrowed my eyebrows as I tried to remember what had happened. “What happened? Where’s Claire?”
His eyes darkened at the mention of Claire’s name. “I was on my way, when I began feeling restless, as though I knew that something bad was about to happen to you. Immediately, I turned back. As I was entering, I could already smell the blood.” His voice broke.
“It was scary. Claire wasn’t expecting me back by then, so she was still trying to clean up. When I found
your body, I thought all was lost.” He ran a hand through his hair and stared at the wall with a haunted look in his eyes.
With great effort, I moved my hand on top of his, and squeezed weakly.
“I’m right here, Dante. You were right on time, and you saved me.” I groaned softly.
He gave me a warm smile, and squeezed my hand in return.
“Yes, and there’s good news.” He said with excitement in his eyes.
I furrowed my eyebrows. “What is it?”
He grinned. “We’re going to be parents.” He declared.
My mouth gaped open, and I glanced at my stomach in astonishment. “What? Are you sure?”
He nodded eagerly. “The healers were shocked that the baby was okay. The silver dagger missed your womb by an inch.”
I couldn’t control myself as tears began spilling from my eyes. I was going to be a mother soon. I thought to myself as I placed a hand on my stomach with a smile. Dante placed his hand on top of mine with a grin.
Claire had killed herself when Dante caught her trying to clean up, because she knew there was no way Dante was going to forgive her, and she knew she was going to face severe consequences for her actions. So she chose to kill herself instead. She slit her own throat with the silver dagger she had used to stab me.
I recovered quickly, and a few days later, I was completely healed. We finished finalizing everything about the wedding ceremony.
Chapter 15

However, the day before my wedding, I received a call from an unknown caller. Dante and I glanced at each other in surprise. I picked the call hesitantly.
“Valerie.” Jerry’s voice croaked from the other end. Dante glanced at the phone with a lifted eyebrow.
“Jerry?” I called in surprise. He sounded so different, like someone who had been through hell. “I know you don’t owe me anything, and I don’t deserve anything from you. But can I please come to your wedding?” He asked softly.
I furrowed my eyebrows in surprise. It was a very bizarre request, and it sounded suspicious. I glanced at Dante, and he stretched out his hand, and I placed the phone in his hand.
“Yes, Jerry. You’re welcome to come. In fact, I will send you an invitation card myself.” Dante replied coolly.
Jerry spluttered, clearly not expecting Dante to be there. “Oh fuck you! Give Valerie the phone, I wasn’t asking you for anything!” He barked.
Dante chuckled. “Well, it’s also my wedding.” He replied in amusement, “I can also give you an invite.”
Jerry growled in anger and hung up.
