Chapter 5
Valerie’s POV
Jerry had given Nancy my manuscripts that I had used to create the potion behind my back. Rage coursed through my veins, and I shook in anger.
I had a little talent in potion making, so I had been an active member in the Apothecary. But that was before I settled with Jerry. Jerry had coerced me into leaving it behind. He always expressed his displeasure for the Healer’s Guild, but now he stole my work for Nancy to submit to the same Healer’s Guild that he made me leave.
Fortunately, a lot of the members of the Healer’s Guild knew me, and they knew my work. So it was easy to bring the report to them, and convince them that my work had been stolen. After making sure everything was in order, I called Astrid and told her everything that had happened. Astrid was more enraged than I was. She wasn’t aware of the wedding ceremony, Jerry knew she was my friend, and that she would tell me.
“How dare they? Nancy is so evil, and Jerry is too blind to even see it.” Astrid spat in disdain. “I will not be surprised if her curse was faked, just a means to get attention to herself.”
I released a resigned sigh. “It doesn’t matter anymore. I have something way bigger ahead of me. I can’t wait to get married to Dante so I could be done with Jerry and this pack.”
Because of Jerry’s hidden wedding ceremony with Nancy, I had become a laughingstock in this pack. I could hear their mocking whispers as they gossiped among themselves of the unwedded Luna. Nancy had wedded their Alpha, so formally, she was his Luna, not me his fated mate. “Oh yes, Dante,” Astrid gushed, “I’ve heard so much about him. I heard that after his mate cheated on me, he lost interest in love and ladies, and only cares about his pack.”
I was intrigued, but I didn’t want to learn about Dante from rumours and strangers.
“I really want you to be there, Astrid, as my maid of honour.” I informed her, and also changed the topic.
She snorted. “As if anything can stop me from being there. Just give me the date and venue, and
I’ll be there.”
laughed, even as my heart warmed at her words. “The date and venue for the wedding has not been decided yet.” I told her.
“Wedding? What wedding?” A voice called from the door. I hadn’t noticed that Jerry was back.
He looked so nervous and worried, and I laughed internally at how anxious he was. “Hey, Jerry. You’re back. How was the conference?” I asked with a fake smile on my face. “Fine,” he replied absentmindedly, “What wedding were you talking about?” He asked.
shrugged. “Astrid was telling me of a hidden wedding ceremony that took place in this pack.” I watched in amusement as he tensed and his eyes widened slightly. “How did she- ? What wedding? Did she tell you the people that were having the wedding ceremony?” He asked
nervously.
It was amusing to see him so jumpy and scared. I shook my head. “But she said it was a scumbag male that was having a wedding ceremony with his mate’s sister.” I replied.

He scowled, but he quickly hid it with an uneasy smile on his face. “Really? And she didn’t tell you who it was?”
I shook my head. “No, she said she just heard of it.”
Jerry subtly released a sigh of relief, but I wasn’t done.
“Some mates are so despicable. How can someone have a wedding ceremony with his mate’s sister, while pretending to love and care for his mate?” I lamented, shaking my head.
I watched in amusement as Jerry winced guiltily. “Hey, how can you just judge someone like that? He might have a very good reason for doing that. We need to know his side of the story, you know.”
I lifted an eyebrow at him, completely unimpressed. He was defending his actions, justifying his wrong–doings, as though what he did was reasonable. It was getting crystal clear that I had wasted years of my life with Jerry. I had sacrificed my passion just to please him, and he never
cared.
He noticed that his reply didn’t please me, so he quickly tried to amend. “Come on Valerie. I’m not that guy.” He laughed nervously. “I love you so much, and I would never do something to hur you. You mean so much to me.”
His lying words meant nothing to me as I knew the truth, but I played along.
He stepped forward and wrapped me in a tight hug. “I love you, Valerie,” he murmured softly.
I hummed in response, I didn’t reply as usual.
“Very soon, you’ll officially be my Luna, and you’ll take my last name. Just wait and see. The alpha duties have been so hectic lately. Once things calm down, we’ll have our wedding ceremony, in a grand way.” He promised.
I shrugged nonchalantly. “Take your time, Jerry.” I simply replied.
